Kira's recovery story ❤

Meet Kira! a patient who was brought to us after experiencing vomiting and bloody diarrhea. Thanks to her owner's quick action, Kira received immediate veterinary attention and was diagnosed with two serious tick-borne diseases: Canine Babesiosis and Canine Ehrlichiosis.

Upon diagnosis, her owner decided to have Kira confined. Through close monitoring and appropriate medications, Kira made an excellent recovery and was eventually discharged with no remaining clinical signs. Today, Kira is back home, happy and feeling much better! 🎉

These diseases are common in tropical countries like the Philippines, where warm temperatures and high humidity provide ideal conditions for ticks to thrive year-round. Both diseases are primarily transmitted through the bite of infected ticks, which can easily infest homes, yards, and kennels.

🔍 Clinical signs pet owner should look out for:
• Loss of appetite and weight loss
• Lethargy or weakness
• Pale gums. nosebleeds or unusual bruising
• Fever and enlarged lymph nodes
• Vomiting and Diarrhea (sometimes bloody)
• Dark-colored urine
These signs can progress rapidly and may become life-threatening if left untreated.

Kira's story highlights the importance of early recognition and early veterinary intervention. Her owner noticed the signs early and sought veterinary care immediately, significantly improving Kira's chances of recovery.

Aliboy's Story: the tiny fighter 🐾

Meet Aliboy, a young kitten who came to our clinic with some concerning signs. His owner noticed that he was wobbly when walking and was passing yellow mucoid soft stools, although surprisingly, he still maintained a good appetite.

After a thorough examination and diagnostic testing, Aliboy's test kit revealed multiple infectious diseases at the same time, getting 5/6 positive on his 6-way kitten screening test! His test showed positive on the following:
1. Giardiasis
2. Feline Panleukopenia (FPV)
3. Feline Coronavirus (FCoV)
4. Feline Herpesvirus (FHV-1)
5. Feline Calicivirus (FCV)

For a kitten, carrying several infections simultaneously can be extremely challenging. Young kittens have developing immune systems, making them particularly vulnerable to severe illness and complications.

Why are these diseases important?
These diseases are highly contagious diseases that can cause severe diarrhea, vomiting, dehydration, sneezing, asal discharge, mouth ulcerations, fever, reduced appetite and immune suppression. It can be life-threatening, especially in unvaccinated kittens.

What should pet owners watch for?
Cats are masters at hiding illness! Sometimes the earliest signs can be subtle:
- Wobbliness or weakness
- Vomiting or Diarrhea or abnormal stool color
- Sneezing or eye discharge
- Reduced appetite with weight loss or failure to gain weight
- Lethargy or hiding more than usual

Following Aliboy's diagnosis, he was prescribed medications and supportive care to continue at home. Through diligent medication administration, close monitoring, and dedicated home care, Aliboy began showing encouraging improvements. His stool quality improved, his energy increased, and he continued eating well throughout his recovery.

Today, we're happy to share that Aliboy has gained a significant amount of weight compared to his initial visit, when he weighed only 0.7 kg, he is now 1kg! Watching him grow stronger has been incredibly rewarding for everyone involved.

Vaccination, deworming, proper nutrition, and regular veterinary checkups remain the best tools for preventing many serious diseases in kittens. Aliboy's story is a testament to the power of early veterinary intervention, committed home care, and responsible pet ownership. While his journey is not over, he has already shown remarkable resilience and determination.

Rocco’s Recovery Story🐾

Meet our Parvo survivor, Rocco! who was initially brought to our clinic after experiencing loss of appetite and was found to be dehydrated during his physical examination.

After diagnostic testing and clinical evaluation, Rocco was diagnosed with Canine Parvovirus (CPV), a highly contagious and potentially life-threatening viral disease that primarily affects puppies and unvaccinated dogs.

What is Canine Parvovirus?
Canine Parvovirus is a severe viral infection that attacks rapidly dividing cells in the body, particularly those lining the intestinal tract and, in young puppies, the bone marrow. The disease can cause significant damage to the gastrointestinal system, leading to dehydration, secondary infections, and if left untreated, death.

The virus is extremely resilient in the environment and can be spread through contact with infected f***s, contaminated surfaces, or objects such as food bowls, leashes, and shoes.

Pet owners should seek veterinary attention immediately if their dog shows any of the following signs:
🔹 Loss of appetite and weight loss
🔹 Lethargy or weakness with abdominal pain
🔹 Vomiting and/or diarrhea (often severe and bloody)
🔹 Dehydration
🔹 Fever or low body temperature
These signs can worsen rapidly and when seen, your pets should be brought in ASAP!

Rocco was confined for supportive care and close monitoring. As part of his treatment protocol, Rocco received canine parvovirus monoclonal antibody therapy, which works by binding to the virus, helping reduce viral load and supporting the body's immune response during the critical stages of infection. When administered early and alongside appropriate supportive care, this therapy can contribute to improved clinical outcomes.

We are thrilled to share that after his confinement and treatment, Rocco recovered well and was discharged free of his initial presenting clinical signs.He is now continuing his prescribed medications and recovery plan at home ❤

Understanding the YELLOW WARNING SIGN:

Jaundice (also called icterus) is a SYMPTOM, it is a condition where a pet's skin, gums, eyes, and other tissues develop a yellow discoloration due to an excessive build-up of bilirubin in the body. Bilirubin is a yellow pigment produced when red blood cells are broken down and processed by the liver.

In healthy pets, the liver removes bilirubin and excretes it through bile. When this process is disrupted, bilirubin accumulates in the bloodstream and tissues, causing the characteristic yellow appearance.

Jaundice is one of the most significant clinical signs veterinarians monitor because it often indicates a serious underlying disease affecting the:
1. Blood and red blood cells
2. Liver
3. Gallbladder and bile ducts

While jaundice itself is not painful, the condition causing it may be life-threatening if left untreated. There are a LIST of diseases that can reflect this symptom which is assessed by a veterinarian. Here are some of the examples:
- Immune-mediated hemolytic anemia (IMHA)
- Blood parasites
- Toxicity
- Hepatitis and other liver infections/tumors
- Liver failure
- Gallbladder disease, rupture, gallstones or obstruction
- Pancreatitis

As pet owners, what should you look out for?
- Yellow discoloration in skin, gums, ears, white part of the eye
- Loss of appetite and weakness
- Weight loss, abdominal pain or swelling
- Vomiting and diarrhea
- Increased thirst and urination and dark colored urine
- Fever, collapse and in severe cases, neurological signs
- Pale gums

What should you do?
