🐾 Canine Parvo Virus — What Every Dog Owner Needs to Know
Parvo is one of the deadliest — and most preventable — diseases in puppies. It spreads through contact with infected f***s and can survive in soil for months.
⚠️ Watch for: severe vomiting, bloody diarrhea, lethargy, loss of appetite
💉 Prevent it: vaccinate on schedule (6-8 wks + boosters), disinfect with bleach, isolate sick dogs
🏥 If you suspect parvo — get to a vet immediately. Early treatment raises survival to ~90%. Untreated, mortality is 80-90% in puppies.

Pyometra in Dogs

Pyometra is a serious, life-threatening bacterial infection of the uterus that commonly affects unspayed (intact) female dogs, usually a few weeks after estrus (heat).

Causes

* Hormonal changes after heat, especially increased progesterone.
* Thickening of the uterine lining (cystic endometrial hyperplasia).
* Bacterial infection, most commonly E. coli.
* Accumulation of pus within the uterus.

Types

🔹 Open Pyometra

* Cervix remains open.
* Pus or bloody discharge from the v***a.
* Easier to recognize.

🔹 Closed Pyometra

* Cervix is closed.
* No vaginal discharge.
* Pus accumulates inside the uterus, causing severe abdominal enlargement and a higher risk of uterine rupture and sepsis.

Clinical Signs

* Depression and lethargy
* Loss of appetite
* Fever (may be absent in some cases)
* Increased thirst and urination (PU/PD)
* Vomiting
* Weight loss
* Abdominal distension
* Vaginal discharge (open pyometra)
* Dehydration

Diagnosis

* History of recent heat cycle
* Physical examination
* Complete blood count (often shows neutrophilia)
* Ultrasonography: enlarged, fluid-filled uterus
* Radiography in advanced cases

Treatment

✅ Ovariohysterectomy (spay surgery) is the treatment of choice and is usually life-saving.

Supportive therapy:

* Intravenous fluids
* Broad-spectrum antibiotics
* Pain management

Medical treatment with prostaglandins may be considered only in selected breeding animals and carries risks.

Prevention

✔️ Elective spaying before breeding age is the most effective prevention.

⚠️ Pyometra is a veterinary emergency. Without prompt treatment, it can lead to septicemia, shock, uterine rupture, and death.

How to S*x a Kitten: Male vs. Female

Correctly identifying a kitten’s s*x is an important skill for veterinarians, rescuers, breeders, and pet owners. The most reliable method is to examine the area beneath the tail by comparing the distance between the a**s and the ge***al opening and the shape of the ge***al opening.

♂ Male Kitten

✔️ The a**s is located directly below the tail.
✔️ The preputial (pe**le) opening is farther below the a**s, creating a greater anoge***al distance.
✔️ The ge***al opening is small and round, giving the appearance of a colon ( : ).
✔️ As the kitten grows (typically after 6–8 weeks), the sc***um and testicles become easier to identify between the two openings.

♀ Female Kitten

✔️ The a**s is located directly below the tail.
✔️ The v***a is positioned very close to the a**s, resulting in a short anoge***al distance.
✔️ The v***a appears as a vertical slit, resembling a lowercase “i”.

📌 Key Identification Tip:

* Male = Greater anoge***al distance + round ge***al opening ( : )
* Female = Short anoge***al distance + vertical slit ( i )

⚠️ Note: S*x determination is more challenging in newborn kittens. If you’re unsure, re-examine the kitten after a few weeks or have it assessed by a veterinarian.

Ideopathic Cystitis in Cats🐾

20/06/2026

Almost 100% of pets exposed to minoxidil required hospitalization in a recent report, and all reported deaths occurred in cats. Most cats were exposed through contact with treated humans, including licking their owner's skin or exposure to contaminated bedding, while most dogs were exposed through exploratory behavior, such as rummaging through trash.

Minoxidil is a commonly used hair regrowth medication, but it can be highly toxic to pets. Signs of poisoning may develop within 30 minutes of exposure and include loss of appetite, lethargy, difficulty breathing, weakness, rapid heart rate, and fluid accumulation in the lungs.

Of the 94 reported cases reviewed, 68 involved cats and 26 involved dogs. Approximately 15% of exposed cats died, highlighting their increased susceptibility to minoxidil toxicity.

Pet owners using minoxidil should take precautions to prevent exposure. Wash hands thoroughly after application, prevent pets from licking treated skin, avoid allowing pets access to contaminated pillows or bedding, and store products securely out of reach.

Any suspected exposure should prompt immediate veterinary attention.
