Yesterday, Ms. Susan Espinosa, a 65-year-old animal welfare advocate, bravely filed a formal case against the Barangay Chairperson of Calamba, Laguna for Animal Neglect Resulting to Death, after discovering animal remains inside the barangayβs impounding area. The dogs, which were supposed to be under the barangayβs care, were left to starve to death due to neglect.
Despite her age, Ms. Susan traveled approximately 190 kilometers from Bataan to Calamba β a 380 km back-and-forth journey β just to seek justice for the voiceless. Her determination stands as a powerful reminder that compassion knows no distance nor age. We thank Ms. Susan for her unwavering courage and dedication to ensuring that every stray life counts, and that every act of cruelty is met with accountability.
This case serves as a grim reminder that animal welfare laws exist for a reason β to protect those who cannot speak for themselves. Those who neglect, abuse, or fail to uphold their duty of care must be held accountable.
