WHAT IS EHRLICHIA?

Ehrlichia in dogs is a serious, tick-borne bacterial infection that attacks white blood cells, causing fever, lethargy, bleeding, and anemia, progressing through acute, subclinical (no signs), and severe chronic stages that can be fatal. Transmitted by infected ticks, primarily the brown dog tick, it damages platelets and immune cells, leading to symptoms like nosebleeds, bruising, swollen lymph nodes, joint pain, and lameness, requiring prompt treatment with antibiotics like doxycycline.
