BAGUIO WINS GOLD IN ASEAN SMOKE-FREE AWARDS

The City Government of Baguio won the Gold Award in the second ASEAN Smoke-Free Awards (ASA). The award recognizes the city’s local policies and initiative that establish smoke-free spaces and protect public health.

The recognition was given on September 10, during the opening of the ASEAN Health Ministers Meeting in Melaka, Malaysia, hosted and led by Malaysia’s Ministry of Health.

This year, two Philippine cities received awards: Baguio City earned Gold, while Pasig City received Bronze.

The awards highlight the achievements of cities and local governments in implementing smoke-free policies. They do not evaluate a country’s overall to***co control efforts.

According to the organizers, the awards aim to encourage local governments across ASEAN to establish and sustain smoke-free environments. This initiative helps protect communities from the health risks of smoking and ill effects of secondhand smoke.
