Napaka importante lalo during honey flow season.

Bee colonies are prone to swarming when there's an abundance of food. This is a natural phenomenon where 50% (or more) of the population together with the queen leave their original hive to establish a new colony.

Maganda ba ang swarming?

Apis Cerana (Native) - YES
Apis Mellifera (European) - NO

Kapag nag swarm ang isang colony, mag iiwan sila ng virgin queen sa old colony na kailangang makipag mate sa drones (male bees) galing sa ibang colony at dito naka salalay ang survival ng colony.

Successful mating = queen will be able to produce worker (female) bees which are vital for the survivability of the colony. From the word "worker", sila ang responsible sa pag kolekta ng pagkain at pag maintain ng hive.

Failed mating = queen can only lay drone (male) bees whose sole purpose is to mate. Wala silang ambag sa survivability at maintenance ng colony maliban sa pag regulate ng temperature sa loob ng hive.

Dito nagkaka talo ang native at european bees. Since ang apis cerana ay native sa bansa natin, madaming wild colonies sa paligid na maaaring makipag mate sa young or virgin queen which results in a higher successful mating rate.

Pero hindi ganito ang case sa apis mellifera o european bees. Dahil hindi sila native sa bansa natin, wala o kung meron man ay kakaunti lang ang colonies sa paligid (kung merong beekeeper na malapit sa area mo). Which results in a very low success chance.

Another reason ay hindi kayang mag survive ng apis mellifera sa wild dito sa bansa natin. Primarily dahil sa mites o kuto na hindi sila adapted kung paano labanan. Kaya kapag nag swarm ang colony at walang beekeeper na nakapag rescue ay most likely hindi sila makaka survive.
