SAS K9 terminates Security Canine Handler for gross negligence

Following our internal investigation, SAS K9 has terminated the services of the K9 Handler involved in the September 3, 2025 incident, effective immediately, due to gross negligence and violation of our animal welfare protocols.

We remain committed to upholding the highest standards of ethical K9 handling and assure the public and our partners that we have taken firm and appropriate action.

We sincerely apologized for the recent inconvenience and frustration the animal advocates have experienced due to the mishandling of the dog by the Security Canine Handler that went viral on Facebook on September 3, 2025. We understand how this incident may have caused distress, and we deeply regret it.

Upon reviewing the situation, we found the root cause to be the dog maltreatment of the Security Canine Handler. This action is unacceptable, and we are taking this matter seriously.

To prevent this from happening again, we are implementing additional retraining for our Security Canine Handler teams and a review of our internal training system processes.

This incident does not reflect our standards, and we are dedicated to ensuring it does not happen again.

Official Statement on September 3, 2025 K9 Training Incident

We are aware of the video circulating online involving one of our dog handlers during a daily proficiency test on September 3, 2025. We would like to assure the public, our clients, and our partners that this behavior does not reflect SAS K9’s values, and it is not something we condone or tolerate.

Upon verifying the incident, the company immediately issued a formal memorandum of concern to the handler and asked him explain his side. He has since acknowledged his actions and expressed willingness to undergo the necessary corrective measures.

The handler has been placed under preventive suspension and has been directed to return to our K9 training facility in Cavite for retraining and reassessment.

The dog involved in the incident was promptly evaluated by our team, and we can confirm that he is in good health and has not sustained any injuries.

As an organization committed to the highest standards of animal care and training, we hold ourselves accountable to ethical and humane practices. Our K9s are not merely working animals; they are our partners. We remain firm in our commitment to their welfare. Positive reinforcement, including the use of toys such as balls as rewards, is central to our training approach.

We take this matter seriously. Internal reviews and a reinforcement of our handler training protocols are already underway to ensure this does not happen again.

We thank those who brought this to our attention. Rest assured that we are taking all appropriate steps to address the issue and uphold the trust placed in us.

Following the marching orders of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. to intensify the national campaign against illegal drugs, the Bureau of Customs (BOC) through the Bureau of Customs - Port of Clark, in coordination with the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency–Airport Interdiction Unit (PDEA-AIU), intercepted a shipment containing 5,062 grams of Ketamine, a dangerous drug, concealed in a wooden cable reel declared as “Data Cable Roll.” The shipment, valued at ₱25,310,000, originated from Belgium was bound for San Rafael, Rizal.
