Kristin's Boarding Cattery

Kristin's Boarding Cattery I started vet nursing in 1974 and opened my first boarding cattery in 1978. This is the fifth cattery I have set up.

I have been running this cattery in Whitianga for 15 years now.

For anyone looking for a cattery in Whitianga, sadly there are now none. I highly recommend Waitakaruru Cattery.

Tough day today. Had to say goodbye to one of the sweetest cats ever. He was still happy and purring, but I won't let a pet suffer, and he was wasting away. R.I.P beautiful Charlie boy, you were so loved, and gave it all back. Such a great friend, and my last cat.

New animal welfare regulations come into effect from today! (1 October).
Whether you own a pet, run a petting zoo, ride horses, transport livestock, are a a commercial farmer or live on a lifestyle
block; if you’re responsible for an animal – these regulations could apply to you.
Check out the information here - http://www.mpi.govt.nz/animalregs
These changes build on what is already required and also set some new rules.
The new regulations will make it easier for the Ministry for Primary Industries and SPCA New Zealand to take action against animal mistreatment. New penalties such as fines will be issued for certain actions. The worst offenders will continue to be prosecuted under the Animal Welfare Act.

Cattery now closed.

22/07/2018

I am very sadly forced to close my boarding cattery at the end of August, after 16 years due to house being sold. This will leave only one other cattery, which is not enough with town growing so fast. Any cat lovers out there interested in taking over the chattels and setting up? I am happy to assist anyone interested. My cattery is in an internal entrance garage, with small run built at the back. It is a great little home occupation. You would require neighbours' permission. Serious interest only please. Phone Kristin, 8664724.

Please keep your pets safe during what will be a very scary time. It won't just be Guy Fawkes night so ideally keep your pets in at night. Now they have hit the shops there will be people that don't give a damn letting them off any time.

The NZVA’s top tips to protect animals during Guy Fawkes:

Find out where and when fireworks will take place near you.

Contact a veterinary clinic for coping advice if your pet has previously exhibited fear-related behaviour.

Keep pets indoors, preferably with curtains drawn and windows closed to reduce noise.

Turn on the radio or television to create a familiar sound which can be comforting.

Remove anything in the room where you are keeping your pet that could injure them.

Provide blankets and pillows for your pet to hide under if they wish.

Take your pet to an alternative location for the night if necessary.

Owners should remain calm and provide quiet reassurance to their pet.

Just realised, it will be 40 years next year since I opened my first boarding cattery. Where has that time gone!

I have changed over from Iams cat food to Black Hawk, and the cats are loving it.

How is this for a little beauty!
