Often called Kennel Cough, Canine Cough is a highly contagious respiratory infection that spreads quickly anywhere dogs socialise, like parks, beaches, daycares, or training classes.

While it’s usually not serious in healthy dogs, it spreads easily through coughing, sniffing, and shared toys or bowls.

𝗦𝗶𝗴𝗻𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗪𝗮𝘁𝗰𝗵 𝗙𝗼𝗿:
🔍 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗖𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵: A harsh, hacking cough that sounds like a "goose honk" or like something is stuck in your dog's throat.
🔍 𝗥𝗲𝘁𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴: They may gag and produce foamy mucus (often confused with vomiting).
🔍 𝗢𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝗦𝘆𝗺𝗽𝘁𝗼𝗺𝘀: Runny nose or watery eyes.

In standard cases, dogs still have normal energy and appetite, but the cough can last 1 to 2 weeks.

𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘁𝗼 𝗗𝗼 𝗜𝗳 𝗬𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗗𝗼𝗴 𝗛𝗮𝘀 𝗜𝘁:
🐕 𝗜𝘀𝗼𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗲: Keep your dog at home and away from other pups until the cough has completely resolved.
🐕 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝘁: Keep them quiet, as barking and exercise trigger coughing fits.
🐕 𝗗𝗶𝘁𝗰𝗵 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗖𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗮𝗿: Remove their collar to prevent throat irritation (use a harness if needed).
𝗦𝗼𝗳𝘁𝗲𝗻 𝗙𝗼𝗼𝗱: Offer soft food instead of dry biscuits to soothe their throat.

𝗣𝗿𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗶𝘀 𝗞𝗲𝘆!
While vaccination doesn't guarantee 100% immunity against every single strain, it is highly effective at reducing the severity of symptoms and stopping the spread.

🧡 𝗕𝗼𝗼𝗸 𝗤𝘂𝗶𝗲𝘁 𝗧𝗶𝗺𝗲𝘀: If your dog gets overwhelmed, ask us for an early morning or late evening appointment, or wait in the car until we are ready.
