Bias surgery is postponed to Tuesday (her surgeon wasn’t feeling well today) On the bright side, we booked her to also be spayed while sedated.

Hazel is a hero in Germany!! She is inspiring an entire generation of children with her brave story on Maus Radio, Westdeutscher Rundfunk Cologne: NZ media is already broadcasting Hazel on all channels: This was an utter tragedy, the family lost everything—their home, their possessions, and the sense of security that once enveloped their lives—but thanks to Hazel, the brave companion who risked everything to protect them, her owner is alive and well!...

Attached are the X Rays invoice (paid - the 841 dollars "balance forward" were all donations directly to the vet!!!), and the estimate for surgery (additional to that - to be paid on the day). We removed vet name and logo per their request, as well as individual prices - the total is shown, bottom of page. The total estimate at this point is 4707.7, with a max variation to 5460.26. We are confident we CAN pay the surgery thanks to YOUR compassion towards her!! Every dollar towards her added up and gave this girlie the gift of life!!!❤️❤️❤️ THANK YOU!

JDC morning walk - K9 team doing the morning off leash compact group sniffing before the rescues individual leisure stroll on lead. Ritchie and Danny would be good off leash but won't try it while they're very new to the site. Dior and Biggie are all good as long as I carry a treat, but again they would benefit of long lead walk. The small bubs won't need to venture away from their nest yet, and Bia is on rest time before the surgery tomorrow. The rest of the crew been fed and resting before the morning adventures.

Bia’s X-ray images today showed bone damage that’s clear even to someone without medical training. She must have been in a lot of pain for months, yet she’s still trying to use her leg. We also took the chance to bring her up to date with her shots for parvo, lepto, and kennel cough. Her X-rays were covered by donations to the vet account, and we’re so incredibly grateful for that—thank you!

Bia's Update: We will shortly post the X-rays. Her injury is severe, with significant bony changes as a result of the body's attempt to heal, and the injury itself was more complex compared to Biggie's similar historical fracture.
The recommended course of action is surgical intervention on the femoral head, which would alleviate pain and enable her to utilize her leg. Bia will require strict movement restriction for the next days post surgery, followed by a gradual return to normal movement. Prolonged heavy effort (ie as a hunting or working dog) would not be recommended, however, she will be able to lead a normal life as a pet with reasonable activity levels, and that’s exactly what we want for her!!!

Bia is scheduled for surgery on Friday 29th. The surgery is confirmed within the original estimates - which is a huge relief. Thank you so much for everyone who supported Bia on this journey, making the surgery possible!!! We will be back with the X-rays images and costs so far.

Ref NZ Herald article today: There’s a lot of debate online. Vets are mandated under The Welfare Act to euthanize to prevent suffering if no treatment is possible and the dog is in severe pain that can't be alleviated. The vet is making the decision in these cases IF the vet cannot reach the owner, or the owner agrees.

However, if the owner is present or contactable, the owner has the legal right to seek a second independent opinion. In short—the vet SHOULD NOT make a unilateral decision without giving the owner the possibility to have the dog examined for a second opinion. Bullying and pressuring an owner to agree, or moving forward against their wishes for a second source confirmation, is definitely a violation of professional ethics.
