Why do dogs injure muscles?
There are many reasons why a dog's muscle may become injured. Most obvious is when there is a direct blow or trauma to a muscle.
Other reasons can be more subtle like overuse of muscles which cause them to become fatigued. This can then lead to muscles being overstretched and then tear. Another common reason is due to repeat strain injury.
Common scenarios that maybe causing repeat strain injuries are dogs who repeatedly jump in and out of cars, and on/off couches
and beds. Or dogs who slip and lose traction on slippery floor surfaces in the home on a regular basis. If these actions are repeated multiple times daily the muscles are being repeatedly strained with new tears happening frequently.
A dog's conformation can also be a contributing factor to making him at risk of injury. Poor conformation can lead to poor muscle development in affected areas.
