Happy New Year! 🎉

As we head into 2026, I’m putting two new policies in place to help my business run smoothly and fairly for everyone.

💳 Payment on the Day

From now on, payment is required on the day of your appointment.

I currently spend a large amount of unpaid time chasing overdue payments and reconciling transfers made with incorrect reference numbers. To eliminate unnecessary admin time, payment will now be required before I leave the property.

• Cash or bank transfer accepted
• I’m happy to send an invoice from my phone at the appointment, or the night before if needed

This allows me to spend my time where it matters — on your horses, not paperwork.

❌ Cancellation Policy

I require 48 hours’ notice to reschedule an appointment.

• Cancellations within 48 hours require 50% of the appointment fee, paid upfront before rebooking
• Cancellations within 12 hours require the full appointment fee

Why this matters

Running a mobile business is challenging — especially as a mum with limited working hours. A lot of time goes into carefully planning runs so clients in the same areas are booked on the same days.

Please put your appointment in your diary, set reminders, do whatever you need to do to remember it. While I do my best to send reminders, it is not my responsibility to ensure you remember an appointment you booked.

Last-minute cancellations are extremely difficult to fill. While I may have other trims on the list, they are often not in the same area, and I have a child to get home to at school bus time. Extra travel simply isn’t possible once the day is planned.

A note on emergencies

If your child, family member, or animal has a genuine medical emergency — of course I will be reasonable. Life happens.

However, repeated “emergencies” will be treated as a pattern, and I may decide that I’m not the right hoof care practitioner for you. If you think you may not be able to keep your appointment, please contact me as early as possible — I appreciate that flexibility does go both ways at times.

I am incredibly grateful to the majority of my clients who respect appointment times and pay promptly — I truly appreciate you 🙏
These policies are being introduced to protect my time and to avoid disruptions that affect other clients when the schedule gets thrown off.

Here’s to a smooth year of hoof care in 2026 🐴✨

Kayla is coming to see Boy next Monday. He's been working hard lately and also we had a period where we were using a saddle that didn't fit ideally.

He has definitely earned himself a nice treatment to loosen everything up! If you are interested in trying Bowen or already love Bowen (for yourself or your horse) message Epona Fields Equine to book in. Call it an early Xmas treat ;)

✨️ Monday 24th November ✨️
📣 I'm Heading Out To Mangawhai, TeArai, Kaiwaka and Back To Maungaturoto 📣

So If You've Been Having Pain Or Restrictions In Your Day To Day Life Or Your Horse Hasn't Quite Been Feeling Themselves, Get In Touch Today To Book In! 📲

THE PRIMARY PURPOSE OF THIS VIDEO IS TO SHOW PONIES THAT HAVE BEEN TRIMMED USING THE 'TOE CHOPPING' METHOD TROTTING AWAY SOUND AND HAPPY

It's not an act of brutality as some would have you believe.

A bit of a yarn about why I 'chop toes' on laminitic horses.

There's a left field trimming method that's gained a bit of traction in New Zealand- the movement behind it is called Hoofing Marvellous and their trim method is called 'the Phoenix way'

Essentially they promote trimming to the hard sole plane (ok), but promote leaving lamina wedge intact on laminitis horses and ponies (ick).

They have had a tendency to demonise those trimmers and farriers that do remove the laminar wedge and restore anatomically correct break over to a laminitic foot. I believe they have gained a lot of traction mostly due to fear mongering which I really don't agree with.

I don't go super in depth on the topic in this video but I thought I'd share a few thoughts about how I trim laminitis ponies and why I trim the way I trim.

I just so happened to be visiting a couple of ponies today that do struggle with laminitis flare ups so I've shown their hooves as an example of what I believe to be an effective realigning trim- enabling them to move comfortably with correct alignment and a short breakover.

The primary purpose of this video is to show horses that have been trimmed using the 'toe chopping method' trotting away sound and happy.

Today was a very good day for Richie! I have been trimming Richie and his herd for a couple of years now. He's always needed sedation to trim but over the last few trims we have been reducing the amount used and he has been tolerating the experience well. Sooooo...

Today we trimmed him without sedation! He was perfect! His mates huddled around him for emotional support and kept a very close eye on what I was doing 😂 I love the herd dynamics with donkeys they are very sensitive stoic and codependent animals.

His first trim without sedation in the 10 years they have owned him I think. This trim has to be the highlight of my week!

So happy for him and his owners. Fingers crossed we can continue to trim without sedation from here on out- take nothing for granted when it comes to donkeys but I am optimistic that he has enough trust in the situation now that he will be ok.

If you are a donkey person you will understand 😂

Filthy winter maintenance trims on a gypsy cob. 5 week trim cycle.

Spring is all but here! Now is the time to be super vigilant with grass management for your laminitis prone horses and ponies!

Horses on a 6 week cycle should be dropping down to a 5 week cycle now to keep up with the eccelarated growth rates.
