Despite the wet and wild weather, we have a few tricks up our sleeves: this off-leash walk in Plimmerton never fails to deliver slightly better weather - a bit damp but not super soaked like Wellington right now. Koda approves!

Hi Summer, nice of you to finally turn up! To beat the heat on Wellington's hottest day so far this year (25 degrees), our little dog pack went for an on-leash dip in the Tawa stream yesterday, which they loved 🌞 😅 🐾 A reminder for dog owners on hot days like this: check the temperature of the pavement before walking your dog, try to avoid the midday hours or seek lots of shade, to prevent paw burns and general overheating.

We don’t normally walk dogs of such size difference but Cooper and Bea here are brother and sister — i.e. they live in the same house. As is often the case, the little dog is the real boss! But it works well; they always get along and are super cute together.

We've come across some great advice online on minimising stress in dogs when fireworks go off, and this video is one of the more practical ones: https://youtu.be/23AQ-JjXG4M?si=rLZfUsCgUtiKye-n. What frustrates us personally is that, unfortunately, many Kiwis still set off fireworks right up until New Year's Eve and beyond (completely legally, too—it just can't be sold on most days of the year). We don't want to be the "Fun Police," but it's notable that many OECD countries, including Australia, have much stricter fireworks regulations than we do. At the *very least*, it would be good to see tighter restrictions on when fireworks can be privately used, giving pet owners a heads-up to protect the wellbeing of their furry friends.

We sometimes monitor the MetService Rain Radar to try and outsmart the weather. Today was a success with this hidden gem of a dog park in Porirua. For the little rain we did get today, the trees in the middle of the park gave us great cover. Best of all, the dogs loved it! ❤️ 🐕

Healthy play: a good sign that two dogs are good play matches is the way they take turns being the “chaser” and the “chasee”. In this case, Loki (the bigger mini schnauzer) is twice as large and heavy as Coco but he still lets her chase him around quite a bit!
