Many dog owners have been asking for a separate small dog area as part of the Taylor road dog park. Here is the response from WCC. The link is now closed but further dog consultation is happening in September:

"Dog fence request for Taylor Park to separate smaller dogs from others at Taylor Park in Tawa.

We have set criteria in place for fencing dog parks. One of the main things is the space needs to be more than 4000 square metres as small, fenced dog parks are very hard to maintain. When small dogs run around on the same spots over and over, we end up with no grass on them which becomes muddy in Winter and dusty in Summer.

In 2016 the Dog Policy was reviewed and the public feedback from this was the community wanted large fenced off dog exercise areas. Following this we were provided funding to fence three dog parks and the first was Taylor Dog Park. Since then there has been significant investment at Taylor Dog Park with the installation of the fencing, light, sumps to assist with drainage, seating and the path.

Our Dog Policy and Animal Bylaw is currently under review again, so we are currently holding off major improvements at dog parks until this is finalised, and consultation is completed. I would encourage you to submit any feedback/requests here to show your support - https://www.letstalk.wellington.govt.nz/dog-policy-review

As it stands, unfortunately Taylor Dog Park is too small to have a separate fenced area for small dogs."

Project update: Thank you to everyone who gave their feedback in our pre-engagement period. We are currently analysing your feedback and will be in touch once we are at the next stage of drafting the policy. There will be more opportunities to provide feedback as this
