💛🐾 Meet Shirley - Our Cat Whisperer 🐾💛
Shirley’s passion for animals has seen her spend years volunteering with Wellington Zoo 🦜, the SPCA 🐕, and fostering cats and kittens 🐈‍⬛ to prepare them for their forever homes 🏡. From building cardboard castles for kittens 📦🐱 to crafting puzzle feeders for kaka 🧩🦜, she’s all about keeping animals happy, healthy, and enriched.

She has 3 of her own ginger feline mischief makers at home to keep her busy and she wouldn’t have it any other way 🐈🐈🐈.

Since earning her NZ Certificate in Animal Technology 🎓 from Otago Polytechnic in 2017, Shirley has been loving life as an NZCAT and we’re thrilled to have her on the Creature Comforts team! 🐶🐾🐱.

Shawna’s lifelong love for animals led her to complete her Diploma in Veterinary Nursing through Otago Polytechnic in 2023. With experience in both clinic nursing and reception — plus a knack for keeping even the most anxious cats calm — she’s all about giving pets the best care in a nurturing environment.

When she’s not looking after your furry friends, Shawna’s usually adventuring with her curious cat, Jasper, or enjoying shopping, walks, and a good movie night. She’s excited to meet all the wonderful pets (and their people!) here at Creature Comforts. 💛

He’s the cutest, happiest little chap you could ever meet! 💛🐾
He always trots into our day with the biggest smile, tail wagging like it’s powered by pure joy. Rufus LOVES seeing the team (and the feeling is 100% mutual 🥰). His favourite things? Strolling the neighbourhood like the local mayor, soaking up all the sights and smells… and of course, post-walk cuddles that melts our hearts. 🐶✨

Kiera grew up in what can only be described as a home zoo with over 15 rescued cats and 4 dogs in the family, her love for animals started young and never stopped! Now proud cat mum to the mischievous Toastie, she brings a whole lot of love, care, and animal know-how to the Creature Comforts crew 💛🐱🐶

With a degree in biology, ecology, and conservation under her belt, plus a full-time job wrangling little humans at a local childcare centre, Kiera is all about kindness, integrity, and giving your pets the royal treatment they deserve 👑

When she’s not out on walks or giving cuddles, you’ll find her gardening, hiking Wellington’s trails, or dancing the night away at local gigs. 🎶🌿

Kiera can’t wait to meet your fur-babies and give them all the love and attention they need while you’re away!

🐾 Meet Briar – Admin Extraordinaire & Animal Welfare Warrior! 🐾

Briar joined the Creature Comforts team in 2024 and is the magic behind the scenes, keeping everything running smoothly 💻🐶. With a lifelong passion for animal welfare and a heart of gold, she’s been helping animals near and far for decades.

After 20 years in Japan (including her dream job as Tokyo Director of Animal Refuge Kansai!), she returned to NZ and continued her amazing work at the Wellington SPCA. One of her proudest rescues is Grace, a once-shy Tokyo street cat who’s now a total cuddlebug 🐱💕

These days, Briar balances admin life with raising her family and hanging out with Sergei, her cheeky rescue pup with a dodgy ankle and an even cheekier personality!

We’re so lucky to have Briar’s warmth, wisdom, and incredible experience on our team 🐾

Creature Comforts in owned by Byndie Maxwell. Byndie is passionate, motivated, enthusiastic and professional about the care and welfare of animals. Her knowledge has come from years of experience in animal care and welfare across a wide range of pets and animals. Byndie is a Qualified Vet Nurse who has served at an extremely busy multi-clinic practice since 2002 and she has also been caring for peoples’ animals in their own homes since 2003.

Byndie runs a small but efficient team of extremely passionate and highly qualified Vet Nurses and Animal Care Attendants who are dedicated to ensuring your pets’ needs are met, and that you are provided with the highest standard of service possible. We are committed to reducing the stress and worry that usually occurs when you’re away from home.
