Something about the beach really brings out Red's playful side ⛱️

I dont know if its the sand, the water, or what, but he is always about 10 times as playful when we are at the beach than at the park. He will even chase and tackle Bella, who is usually too energetic for him! I promise its worth looking through the photos to see that!!

Should I be sharing my favourite quiet walk?!

Hopefully, this can be a good adventure for you guys on the weekend. It's such a stunning location, and just 10 minutes from our shop - so you can come see us on the way home too 😉

Not pictured in these videos: my evenings running a pet care business ⤵️

🕑 The hours I spend replying to emails, scheduling appointments, and attempting to make videos I actually like (and hopefully you do too!). Don't check what time I posted this 🙈

🧼 The cleanup after every single dog, the LOUD dryer (don’t worry, we wear ear protection and pop happy hoodies on the dogs - it’s pretty cute, let me know if you want to see that!).

🌞 The weekends spent thinking about all your lovely dogs, sorting out taxes and insurance, watching courses to improve our grooms and understand dog behaviour better, both for walks and grooming. Brainstorming how to keep our little business afloat without ever losing on quality.

The hardest part is carrying that quiet pressure of wanting to do right by every single dog - keeping them happy, comfortable, and safe every time. But hearing that so many of our regulars are excited to come in for their grooms is music to my ears. That trust, and those happy faces, make every late night and every loud dryer fade right into the background 💛

Sometimes, the simple walks are the best ones 💛

I took Zeus out for a quiet wander around Island Bay Beach today, just the two of us. We practiced a few tricks, had a few zoomies, and shared plenty of pats too.

I think these calm, simple moments are where our bond really grows. It's not just about the walk, we also get to learn how each dog likes to connect. Some are independent, some love to play, some just want to sniff everything possible!

I've known Zeus for a while now, and its so lovely to have a walk like this and see how chilled and connected he is with me now. I think hes an emotional mind-reader sometimes! It's so cool to be a part of each of our dogs lives, and build that special relationship - one walk, one groom, one silly little moment at a time 😇

We absolutely love having puppies visit 😍

The dryer can be one of the trickiest parts of grooming for dogs to get used to. It's very loud, and probably feels quite strange! But look at Lupo go - lying down and calm, handling it like a champ 🏆

This was part of Lupos first visit in our puppy package, which includes four gentle visits over four weeks. Each visit slowly builds repeats their exposure to different parts of the grooming process, helping them to build their confidence.

The goal is not a perfect groom, it's to learn that this is a safe, relaxed space where good things happen.

Early experiences like this one make a huge difference for a lifetime of grooming. When grooming feels normal and calm from the start, its sets them up for a happier grooming journey for life!

We are so proud of this little guy, what a great start to his grooming experience 🥹💛

Something new for the weekend 🐾

We will be opening the shop on Saturdays from 10am - 2pm! Perfect if you've been meaning to drop in for a quick nail trim, a lovely chat, or to pick up a few of my favourite pet essentials.

Our little retail space is small but carefully curated with the same walking gear and grooming products I've been using for years, includimg the deliciously good shampoos (yep, the same ones I use while grooming).

If you're out and about, come in and say hi - pups are welcome too for a sniff around and a few pats 💛

The dogs make it all worth it!

I never realised how many different hats I'd wear running a dog walking and grooming business, and oh my GOODNESS, it gets overwhelming sometimes 😳

Quiet moments like this - sitting on a bench with the dogs, handing out treats and pats - reminds me what it's all about: making dogs happy!

We truly love all the dogs we're lucky enough to walk, and how amazing that so many have stuck around for so long!

There's been a lot of change at Mackenzie Pet Care in the last few years - from grooming training, to bringing Brett on as a walker and grooming assistant, to renovating and opening our own shop!

It's been quite a journey, and I feel extremely lucky to say we have had wonderful clients supporting us through every step 💛 you know who you are 🥹😉

The walks have always been the heart of my business and through it all, remain my favourite part of the day. Many thanks to the lovely people that support our little biz, and shares their cool lil dogs with us!

This little guy, Bear, was feeling pretty unsure about his groom today... can you see the difference in his body language before and after?

How sweet is it that he still follows me around while he waits for the groom to begin?! 🥹 That always melts my heart, that even though he is nervous about what's coming, he still feels best sticking nearby 💛

Grooming can be a lot for some dogs - all the sounds, smells, and handling can feel pretty overwhelming. We always try to keep things calm and gentle, taking breaks when dogs need it, and offering plenty of reassurance (and a few treats of course) 😋

By the end of the groom, Bear is always wagging his tail again, and very happy to take a big treat and snooze on the couch. Very proud of this lil guy 😇

Every dog's comfort level is different, and that's okay. Our goal isnt just to make these doggies look nice, its primarily to make them feel safe while we groom them, and confident and comfortable out in the world 💛

Beau gets a bit nervous during his groom (I spy lots of lip licking, telltale sign), but he is suuuuch a good boy despite the nerves! Always love seeing this little fluff-ball, and hes just so sweet and always happy to see us and cash in some pats 💛 it probably doesn't hurt that we have taken him on some walks when his usual walking bestie All Terrier Motives Wellington has time off 😇
