Meet Porridge. This incredibly sweet boy came into the pound in a terrible underweight state with severe untreated mange and a skin infection. His whole little body was red and painful but his tail still wagged for pats. After a lot of treatment he is now ready to find his new home.

Porridge is only knee height. We don't know what he is mixed with but there is probably English staffy in there. The pound think there could even be French bulldog in him! At a guess he is between 1 and 2 years of age and is the sweetest little boy that just wants to please you. He is great with dogs and kids. We haven't tested him with cats.

If you are in wellington and would like to foster or adopt porridge please email [email protected].

Fosters urgently needed for pups of all ages

We need fosters for pups from tomorrow!

Yes - we know it's Easter, but rescue never stops. We have emergency pups incoming tomorrow (5 weeks old) a wonderful good Samaritan has saved them from euthanasia 😭.

We also have slightly older pups who need to be separated from their siblings so they get the training and attention they need whilst waiting for adoption. They are crate trained, partly toilet trained and know some basic obedience.

We provide everything - food, bedding, crates, toys, flea and worm treatment and vet care. All we ask you to provide is time, patience and love. As these are pups, ideally they would not be left alone for more than four hours in one day and you would have a fenced safe area for toileting.

If you are available now and would like to foster and help us save lives then please go to: www.elliesk9rescue.co.nz/foster for more information and our online foster form.

Photos of some of our cute pups for your attention (all are looking for forever homes).

Jade update

Our brave Jade has tested negative - she is parvo free!

She's now happily playing with her fosters dogs and has the freedom of the section.

The weight is going back on and she can finally go on adventures and explore.

We are so proud of the fight in this sweet, smart girl.

Thank you so much to the team at Mitre 10 Porirua for this pallet of dog food.

Thank you Paul Kellow for nominating Ellie's when he knew it was available.

We already have plans to share half of this food with a food bank who have approached us. They have no more dog food to share with the people in their community. We will make sure many dogs benefit from this food.

UPDATE: Nothing has been returned sadly :( Thank you so much to everyone for their support and offers of phones.

Please help!

Our wonderful Co-Founder Nicole's car was unfortunately broken into last night on Kingston St, Boulcott, Lower Hutt. Stolen was her handbag, cards, and Samsung s24 ultra phone.

She's cancelled the cards but if any one sees her handbag dumped or pink s24 phone for sale can they please let us know.

The other thing of importance was her 'hoot hay'. "My Grandma and I had a tradition of taking the hay from the manger at church each Christmas until she died. Ten years worth of hoot hay was in my handbag to bring me good luck. It is irreplaceable and not worth anything"

As most of you will know Nicole does A LOT for the community. Not only is she a Co-Founder at Ellie's which involves rescuing and rehoming dogs, community desexing and food drop offs, but she works as a vet nurse part-time for Masterton SPCA in the desexing caravan. She brings home weak and sick kittens to nurse back to health.

Nicole scans found dogs and cats in the community for microchips to try and get them back to their owners.

She helps people who find themselves unexpectedly in hospital temporarily and unable to care for their pets.

Nicole is also the mum to a currently teething toddler. After working a full day and commuting to and from Masterton, Nicole was exhausted and dealing with a tired toddler. Juggling him and his stuff into the house, she accidentally left her handbag shut in her car on her driveway.

Sadly she has been subject to some not very nice victim blaming on a local community page when she appealed for help finding her bag. The truth is our stuff should be safe on our property and it is disgusting that someone decided it was OK to steal from anyone, much less someone who does so much in the community. At the side of her driveway is a big bright pink sign with our logo, so yeah they knew they were stealing from a charity, they just didn't care.

As anyone who does rescue will tell you our phones are probably the most important thing we use. It is a point of contact, emails and information on the move and a camera for photos to advertise our dogs for adoption. It is hard to run our rescue without them and Nicole is not in the financial situation to replace it right now.

So please, no questions asked, please can whoever took her stuff (or someone who knows who took her stuff) please return it. Especially her bag with the hoot hay which is worth nothing to you. Do the right thing for someone who does so much for the community, please.

Nicole also needs a phone. Our preference would be to get HERS back. But as that is unlikely, does anyone have a phone they don't need? It needs to have a good memory and great camera and preferably android.

Freedom ride!

When we were contacted by animal control about these two sweet boys, we couldn't say no!

Clay and Sandy are 17 weeks old and had been in the pound for 3 weeks! Their mum was a bearded collie x staffy, and dad was unknown.

They were so excited for their freedom ride and then to meet their new foster families. Clay immediately demanded cuddles from his fosters, watching everything from the safety of a lap!

Sandy had a big explore before settling down by his fosters feet in the sun to enjoy the autumn sunshine with his new toy.

It makes us so happy to be able to facilitate pups like these into safe and loving homes. We are so grateful to all our fosters who open their arms to these dogs and save lives.

If you would like to find out more about becoming a foster with Ellie's and saving lives like Clay and Sandy, then go to: www.elliesk9rescue.co.nz/foster . Our online forms are there as well.

Pup of the week - Bonnie

Bonnie is one of our 13 week old German Shepherd x Huntaway pups.

Her fosterer sent us this cute video montage of her achievements which we just had to share.

Just like her littermate Usyk who has been rehomed and will be starting training as a service dog in a few weeks, Bonnie is really smart and picks up training really quickly.

Bonnie has the German Shepherd loyalty to her chosen person and will do anything for them. We are hoping that we can find that special someone for her.

If you would be interested in a smart, loyal dog to take on adventures and then cuddle on the sofa with then please go to: www.elliesk9rescue.co.nz/adopt and complete the online form.

Sasha litter update - Puppy sponsorship

We are 5 weeks old today!

We are running around and happily feeding ourselves as well as top ups from mum.

Mum was finding keeping up with nine of us too much, so three of us went to stay with another really nice lady who has fostered lots of young pups. Now mum has more time and milk for the remaining six of us.

Anyway - now we are 5 weeks old we would love to have some names so the team at Ellie's are asking for sponsors for us.

For $100 - you get to choose our name and will get a sponsorship certificate with our photo. You can gift this to someone if you like.

The $100 donation will help the Ellie's team to pay for our food, worm and flea treatment, bedding, toys, puppy pads etc until we get adopted.

So if you would like to name one of us, please DM the team your choice of pup, our new name and make payment to: Ellie’s Canine Rescue and Rehome, ASB, 12-3478-0067646-00 reference puppy sponsorship. We can supply you with a receipt for tax purposes.

Sensory garden update

A huge thank to Dinky Dogz owners Michelle and Alan for donating the wooden posts (from Bunnings Naenae Trade Centre) and turnbuckles (from Mitre 10 New Zealand) and a shade cloth! Alan mentioned that when he told Bunnings and Mitre 10 the items were for us there was a generous discount for him. Thank you so much team!

This generous donation means we will be able to cover the small puppy zone so they can play in hot sun or rain and cover another play zone for the bigger dogs and pups.

Alan was camera averse, so I have a photo of his truck delivering the goods and a cute photo of Tigris (because she's a princess and prettier than a truck 🥰).

Next step will be installing these and getting the rain covers up before we get into winter. Thank you so much Alan and Michelle! You guys are awesome.
