Taupo and Hawkes Bay trip coming up next week. Due to road closures I will be having to change the schedule around a little, so I’ll work with some of you on a different time or day to usual. If you can, please let me know of any changes you have had due to the flooding and we’ll work out a plan for you.

Tomorrow I am heading back up to the Waikato from Hawkes Bay (via a scenic tour of the North Island), and I will start my Waikato rounds on Tuesday. Sorry for the short notice for some, I haven’t really known how long I would need to be here in HB.

As I’ve been around some of the worse affected areas this afternoon, it has been so good to see so many clients and friends and know that they are okay and hear their stories.

There are so many supplies down at the Napier RDA and other collection sites (Hastings RDA, Hastings Racecourse and Montana Arena). Donations coming in from all over the country. There is also plenty of hay coming in by the truck load.

If you need anything for your horses, pets or humans, go down to one of the sites and get what you need.

For those in Hawkes Bay I would like to provide any support I can. I have heard that there will be a number of horses staying at the Napier RDA who will need farrier services, removing shoes and getting tidied up, so I will be working to coordinate this over the coming days.

If you have horses who need help with their hooves in the Pakowhai/ Taradale / Meeanee area, please get in touch with me, I am working on a plan for the area. Services will be free of charge for those in need after the floods.

I hope you and all your horses are safe after the cyclone. I am currently stuck in HB, we’ve had slips like we’ve never seen here before, and lots of trees down, but we’re all safe and well.

I’m still looking at being back trimming in the Waikato next week if I can get back up there. I will just be holding fire on making bookings until things develop a bit more.

I’ll keep you updated as I can, but we currently don’t have reception or wifi at home.

⭐️ Friday Hoof of the Week ⭐️

A new angle for this week, the caudal aspect of the foot. The development of the digital cushion and frog is so important, when these structures are healthy they support correct alignment of the boney column, if they are sick and underdeveloped then the alignment seen from the side will be broken back, with low heels.

The heel bulbs should fill out the back of the foot like plump ripe fruit 🍑. If your horses heel bulbs look a squished rotting plum then we have an issue!

What a fantastic week we had in the US for the International Hoofcare Summit Cincinatti Ohio. Being amongst so many of the world’s top hoof hoof care providers, with expert presenters and round table discussions on a huge variety of hoof related topics, with perspectives from so many different angles and places.

The stand out by far turned out to be a kiwi! Stuart Muir Nzcef-Cjf Dipwcf gave very thought provoking seminars and round tables.

We made so many likeminded friends from lots of different countries, people to go back to visit and learn with.

I have come away with so many ideas to bring home into practice with my clients here.

Topped off with some great nights out, shopping on a scale not seen in NZ, and an epic few hours in Fort Worth Texas on our layover on the way home.

It was touch and go for a while there as to whether our flight was going ahead with all the flooding here at home, but we made it!

I’m back in Waitomo which is in a state of emergency, but we’re all good and animals are all safe. Hope everyone else is holding up okay.

What an amazing time so far at the International Hoofcare Summit Cincinatti Ohio 🤩. Never have I seen so many farriers all together in one place 😂. Making connections with hoof care providers from all over the world, having so many inspiring conversations. Bring on another two days!
