We have an exciting opportunity for a Veterinary Technician to join our Waipukurau Production Animal team! 🐄🐑

This is a fixed-term, 12-month role perfect for someone who enjoys variety, works well alongside farmers, and thrives in the fast-paced world of rural veterinary practice—where no two days are the same.

Key responsibilities include:
• On-farm services such as dehorning, teat-sealing, vaccinating, and lifestyle block work
• Sheep handling services (Conveyor)
• Assisting veterinarians with procedures
• Equipment care, organisation, and maintenance
• In-house laboratory testing (FEC, nitrate, FE spore counts)
• General property maintenance tasks

If you have strong animal handling skills, a relevant rural animal technician qualification (or working towards it and love working alongside farmers, we’d love to hear from you!

Spring Itch – Allergies in Dogs 🌸

With spring here, we’re seeing more itchy dogs coming through our clinic doors. The most common culprit? Allergies.

Skin allergies can be caused by:
• Contact allergy – reaction to something touching the skin
• Flea allergy – triggered by flea saliva
• Atopy – environmental allergens like pollen or dust
• Food allergy/intolerance – reaction to ingredients in the diet

✨ What to look out for:
The main sign of an allergy is itchy skin – which can show up as scratching, chewing, licking, rubbing, or shaking. Remember, “skin” also includes ears, paws, and even a**l glands!

💡 Why act early?
Catching allergies early can prevent ongoing discomfort and nasty secondary infections.

👉 If your dog is showing these signs, book a check-up with our team. We’ll help get to the bottom of the itch and keep your pup feeling their best this spring!
