Aroha 💙
Watching Iolaus’ oldest baby all grown up fills me with pride.

At just 4½ years old, Aroha is growing into such a lovely mare. I had the pleasure of watching her on her second beach ride yesterday, and she was incredibly calm, sensible, and relaxed.
From her quiet, confidence-building liberty start with Ramona Berndt, to the miles and schooling Michelle Barlow has been putting into her recently, she's had a wonderful foundation and it's really showing. I'm so proud of the horse she's becoming and looking forward to having her back home and continuing her journey.

Watching Aroha grow and develop has really highlighted just how versatile a good Shire cross can be. Whether it's hacking, trekking, pleasure riding, hunting, dressage, or simply being a dependable partner, they really do have so much to offer. I can't wait to see more of Iolaus' offspring out and about finding their own paths and making their owners proud.

Iolaus now has babies spread all around New Zealand, and I'd love to see how they're all growing up!
📸 If you have an Iolaus baby, pop a photo in the comments and tell us a little about them. I'd love to see them all in one place.

Iolaus is available to a limited number of outside mares again this breeding season, and bookings are now open.

✨ Dreaming of your own iolaus baby? ✨
Here’s your chance to secure one already on the way… 💫
We have a beautiful 15.2hh near-black Thoroughbred mare, 9 years old, currently in foal to Southland iolaus and due this November. She’s an experienced mum who foals easily and takes everything in her stride.
Her current iolaus foal (now being weaned) has been our top pick of the season — super friendly, eye-catching, and an absolute pleasure to have around. If this baby is anything to go by, you’ll be in for something pretty special 🤍
She will be available from next week once her current foal is weaned and ready to head to her new home.
