Spca Snip and Chip....

SNIP ‘N’ CHIP COMES TO WAIKATO! 🙌

We are excited to be launching a new Snip ‘n’ Chip campaign for cat owners in Hamilton, Cambridge, Morrinsville, Te Awamutu, Te Kuiti, Tokoroa, and other areas in the region.

From 16 July 2025 we are working with local participating veterinary clinics to offer this service to cat owners who are struggling with the cost of desexing and microchipping. Vouchers help those in need get their cat desexed and microchipped for $30.

Bookings are now OPEN! Click the link in the comment section to check if vouchers are available in your area and register for your Snip ‘n’ Chip voucher. If you know someone who needs help with the online system, you can help by completing the registration with them.

Thank you so much to our participating vet clinics for helping us to make this important campaign possible ❤️

PLEASE REMEMBER – a limited number of vouchers are available to help those who require financial assistance. Please, only get a voucher if you need one and intend to use it. In the past, we have noticed some vouchers were never used, or bookings were made with vet clinics and never attended. When this happens, it prevents someone else from using the voucher who might really need it.

For more information, check out our desexing website.

Our bigger and better community desexing scheme is here!

Thanks to the support of CareVets and Kaimai Vets, we’re now able to offer subsidised cat desexing for people living in the following district council boundaries:
Hauraki (e.g. Paeroa, Ngatea, and Te Aroha), Waikato (e.g. Huntly and Ngāruawāhia), Matamata-Piako (e.g. Matamata and Morrinsville),
Waipa (e.g. Cambridge and Te Awamutu), Ōtorohanga, and Hamilton.

AND dog desexing for people living in the Matamata/Piako area at Kaimai Vets.

Cats can be desexed at four different clinics – CareVets Horsham Downs, CareVets Hamilton South, Kaimai Vets Matamata, and Kaimai Vets Te Aroha.

Dogs can be desexed at either Kaimai Vets Matamata or Kaimai Vets Te Aroha. You must live in the Matamata/Piako area.

You contribute $60 per cat (a limit of four cats per household applies) or $110 per dog (a limit of two dogs per household applies) towards the cost of desexing, microchipping, and registering your pet on the NZ Companion Animal Register, and we’ll cover the rest of the cost at one of these participating clinics.

This is a high trust model – we believe that you deserve your dignity, so we don’t require you to prove that you are doing it tough. That said, vouchers are only for people who actually need them.

Funding is limited, so if you can afford to have your pet (that you already own) desexed without a charity covering most of the cost, please leave the vouchers for those who can’t.
To check your eligibility and to grab yourself a voucher, head on over to: https://newlivesrescue.co.nz/desexing/
Strict terms and conditions do apply, please see the website for more details.

Please note: The voucher system is built to be as hands off as possible for our desexing team. If you're really struggling (and your question hasn’t already been answered on the website), please feel free to reach out via email ([email protected]). As our desexing team is separate to our main team, if you PM the page or give us a call, you will be directed back to them.

We know it’s tough out there so New Lives have partnered with two CareVets clinics in Hamilton to offer subsidised cat desexing for people living in Waikato (e.g. Huntly and Ngāruawāhia), Hamilton, Matamata-Piako (e.g. Matamata and Morrinsville), Waipa (e.g. Cambridge and Te Awamutu), and Ōtoro...

We relaunched our community cat desexing scheme in the middle of September last year and thought we should give you all an update on what’s been happening behind the scenes. After all, it’s your support that makes it all possible!

Our op-shop team have been busy sorting and pricing all of your donated goods to raise the funds to finance this scheme, and our vet teams (CareVets Hamilton South and CareVets Horsham Downs) have been busy desexing and microchipping hundreds of cats for people in our community who are doing it tough.

With your help, in 10 months, we’ve been able to help desex and microchip a whopping 716 cats for 571 owners.

• 444 of those cats have been female and won’t go on to collectively produce thousands of kittens.

• 272 of those have been male and won’t be out roaming, spreading disease, and siring thousands more kittens.

The scheme currently has an 89% utilisation rate and there’s still quite a few people with vouchers who are yet to use them so these numbers will continue to grow.

The best part? We’re going to be expanding the scheme!

• We’re increasing the areas we’re able to help in.

• We’ll be subsidising dog desexing in a couple of areas where there’s currently no help available.

We’ll be onboarding two new veterinary clinics in the coming week and once everybody involved is comfortable in their roles, we’ll do the hard launch of the bigger and better desexing scheme.

Watch this space for the announcement!

📌Bro has found his retirement home ❤️
Thank you to all who inquired

Bro is a retired huntaway, 10 years old, looking for a really nice forever retirement home as his owner has passed away. He is very nice natured dog that would still like to do the odd bit of work but definitely not full days although he still has a suprising amount of energy for an older fella.
Bro is a bubbly, very friendly, happy boy, loves to get out and about and a good pat.
