After time away in the UK, I’m so excited to finally welcome you back to Groomingtails, now reimagined into a calm, coastal one-on-one grooming studio here in Waikanae.

This new chapter reflects everything I believe grooming should feel like:

It’s just me working one-on-one with your dog in a peaceful home studio environment, allowing me to give every groom the time, care and attention it deserves.

A little throwback

I came across this and it made me realise how much my grooming has changed over time. Still learning, still figuring things out, but definitely more confident in how I work now.

For me it’s never just about how it looks at the end, it’s making sure the dog is comfortable the whole way through.

We’ve just moved back to NZ so taking some time to get set up again, but I’m looking forward to being back soon 🤍

Not all coats should be clipped ✂️

For certain breeds, hand-stripping isn’t just a preference it’s essential for maintaining coat texture, colour, and long-term skin health.

Clipping can soften the coat over time, dull natural colour, and change how it grows back.
Hand-stripping, when done correctly, keeps the coat functional, structured, and true to the breed.

It’s a slower, more skilled process, but for the right dog it makes all the difference.

This is something I’m incredibly passionate about. Hand-stripping is becoming a dying craft, but it plays such an important role in the wellbeing of wire-coated breeds and it deserves to be preserved.

I was proud to place 1st in hand-stripping a Border Terrier at the Groomalong Grooming Competition 2024 🏆

Due to the time and physical nature of this work, I will only be taking on a limited number of hand-stripping clients when I reopen.

GROOMINGTAILS JOURNEY 📸 Since opening in 2011, Groomingtails has grown from a small salon in an old vet clinic on Elizabeth Street in Waikanae into a trusted space for high-quality grooming and care.
Over the years, the business expanded to include doggy daycare and boarding, built strong relationships with local businesses and charities, and earned a reputation for calm, compassionate, and professional grooming.
As life evolved, so did Groomingtails.. relocating to Waikanae Beach in 2021, refining the focus to personalised grooming, and continuing to invest in training, including international pet grooming certification and industry competitions in Wellington and Auckland.
After a chapter overseas in the UK, where Groomingtails was warmly welcomed by a new community, the journey has come full circle.
Now back in NZ, Groomingtails is preparing to reopen as a small, one-on-one salon, dedicated to providing the same high standard of care, attention to detail, and gentle grooming experience every dog deserves.
A new chapter, built on years of experience.

We’re home 🤍
After time spent grooming in the UK, I’m now back and preparing to reopen Groomingtails here in Kapiti, New Zealand.
My approach is simple: calm, one-to-one grooming, tailored to each dog.
I specialise in:
• Hand-stripping for correct coat care
• Breed-specific trims
• Soft, balanced teddy bear styling
• Working with anxious or sensitive dogs
Every groom is unhurried, considered, and designed around your dog’s wellbeing, not just the finish.
I’ll be sharing more over the next few weeks as I create my new salon space.

Back where we belong!
After a year and a half away in the UK, we’re home in beautiful New Zealand and it feels so good to be back. There’s something special about these quiet dawns, salty air, and the sense of peace you just can’t beat. NZ really is where the heart is 💚
We’ll be taking a little time to get the family settled again, but I just wanted to say how much I’ve missed you all (and your gorgeous pups!). I can’t wait to reconnect, get back to doing what I love, and see those wagging tails again soon.

🐾 A Heartfelt Goodbye from Groomingtails UK 🐾
This is a post we never expected to have to write.
Due to unforeseen circumstances, our family will be relocating back to New Zealand. Sadly this means Groomingtails UK will be closing, with our last day open being Friday 27th March.
To all of our wonderful clients, both human and four-legged.. thank you! Thank you for trusting us with your beautiful dogs, for your loyalty, your kindness, and for supporting our small business. It has been such a privilege to care for your pets and to get to know so many lovely people along the way. We truly have loved every moment and will miss you all more than words can say.
Unfortunately, any appointments booked after 27/03/26 will no longer be able to go ahead, and we sincerely apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.
We do still have a small number of appointments available between now and the 27th, so if you would like to book one last groom at Groomingtails UK, please contact us as soon as possible.
Please continue to follow our page as we begin our journey back to New Zealand. We’ll be taking a short break for a few months to allow for international shipping and to settle back into life in NZ, but we’d love for you to stay along for the journey and see what comes next for us.

We specialise in calm, one-to-one appointments designed for clients who expect exceptional standards, gentle handling, and a flawless finish every time ✨

Here’s how to choose the right service:
🐶 Puppy Intro
The perfect first step for young puppies (from 10–16 weeks, once vaccinations are complete). A soft introduction including light brushing, a warm bath, gentle blow dry, face tidy, hygiene trim and nail trim. Designed to build confidence and ensure your puppy grows up loving the salon experience.

✂️ Full Groom
Our signature service. Ideal every 4–8 weeks depending on breed and coat type. Includes a luxury bath, professional blow dry, precision haircut, nail care, ear cleanse and finishing details.
Essential for breeds such as Cockapoo, Shih Tzu and Miniature Schnauzer who require consistent styling to look their best.
🛁 Mini Groom
A refined maintenance appointment between full grooms. Keeps the face, paws and hygiene areas neat, fresh and photo-ready, perfect for busy schedules.
🫧 Bath, Blow Dry & Brush Out
Ideal for short-haired and double-coated breeds who don’t require clipping but benefit from professional coat care. Perfect between Full Grooms. Leaves the coat glossy, lifted and beautifully fresh.
🐕 De-Shedding Treatment
Highly recommended for heavier-coated breeds such as Retrievers & Shepherds. We carefully remove excess undercoat to reduce shedding at home while protecting skin health and coat quality.
🪮 Hand Stripping
A specialist service for wire-coated breeds including Border Terrier and Jack Russell Terrier (wire coat). This traditional technique preserves natural colour and texture, maintaining the coat exactly as it should be.
💅 Nail Trimming
Regular nail maintenance prevents discomfort and supports posture and joint health. A small detail that makes a noticeable difference.
