🌈 REST IN PEACE - CAT - TRENTHAM 🌈

I'm sorry to bring sad news that a Tabby Cat has passed away on Sutherland Avenue, and is now with Upper Hutt Vets.

A community member has posted on the UH Community Group, but with a photo most won't want to see, so I am posting on their behalf.

This beautiful KittyCat must be loved as he is desexed but not microchipped. A Brown and Black Striped Male Tabby, approx 6-8 years old. He has a very distinctive (old and healed) bite wound mark on his ear.

We are so sorry for your loss. πŸ•ŠοΈ Please contact UH Vet for further info - 04) 5284788.

🦁 πŸ’Ž πŸ‘‘ MR SMOOCH πŸ‘‘ πŸ’Ž 🦁

Meet Smooch, a magnificent 4-year-old Rogue Tom turned Royal King, a Domestic Medium Hair with a dark brown tabby coat that'll make you swoon.

Imagine a sleek, striking dark stripe down his back, cascading into a gloriously poofy black tail! Add in swirling brown and black side markings that are just begging to be admired, ridiculously long and luxurious whiskers, and a pair of soulful green eyes that could melt glaciers.

Smooch's story didn't start out royal. He was a rescue surrender after being sadly left behind. Before finding his way to us, he spent the first two years of his life roughing it, a bit of a scrapper, and let's just say… very masculine. πŸ’ͺ When he first arrived, Smooch was a bit of a scary dude. Unpredictable, with a definite mean streak – I even have the scars to prove it! But fast forward a few months, filled with dedication and a whole lotta TLC, and Smooch wouldn’t hurt a fly… unless that fly was REALLY pushing his buttons. πŸ˜… He knows how to say that's enough.

Smooch brings endless love, light, laughter, and pure happiness to any home he graces. He's still got that regal air of knowing his worth, you know?

A true companion cat, Smooch lives to be with his favourite person. He’ll snuggle up next to you every single night. Bedtime is one of his favourite times. He adores kneading on a soft, fluffy blanket, purring like a tiny motor. His absolute favourite daily activity is being gently stretched – held under his shoulders and lifted high for a magnificent, full-body extension. It's an adorable daily routine.

He loves finding the perfect sunbeam to bask in, and he's perfectly content playing on his own, but also enjoys interacting with his person with lasers, wand toys and peacock feathers. Cardboard scratchers, tall scratching posts, and cozy cubby holes are his jam.

He prefers dry food, ideally a hairball formula, and isn't too keen on wet food. But don't even get me started on treats! Temptations and Creamy Treats are his ultimate weakness.

Now, here's the part that tugs at my heartstrings: Smooch and I have formed an unbreakable bond over the past 20 months, and finding him the purrfect people and forever home is my mission.

He's cat-friendly, but he'd also be perfectly happy ruling the roost solo. No dogs or young children, please – and do note he gets a little wary around strangers. And most importantly, strictly an indoor home is a must! He lacks confidence outdoors. A catio or a sunny conservatory would be his idea of absolute paradise!

Are you ready to welcome a Royal King into your life? Because Smooch is ready to reign!

Guess what? We've got FIVE fantastic FIV+ cats currently in our care! That's right, FIVE! Double my usual preference πŸ™ˆ 🀫

Now, let's clear up some misconceptions about FIV (Feline Immunodeficiency Virus). While it's true these cats have a weakened immune system, it is *not* a death sentence! In fact, with proper care, they can live just as long and healthy lives as any other cat.

The biggest myths? That FIV is easily spread, highly contagious and a death sentence. In reality, it primarily spreads through deep bite wounds (think territorial tomcats fighting), or rarely sexual contact. Keeping your FIV+ desexed kitty indoors eliminates this risk completely. Think of it this way, you can extend the lives of an FIV+ cat by keeping them strictly inside - easy as! πŸ‘Œ

Truthfully, the most common causes of death in cats – kidney disease, liver failure, and cancer – affect FIV+ and non-FIV cats alike. A little extra TLC, a safe indoor environment, and immune boosting supplements are all it takes to give an FIV+ cat a purrfectly wonderful and long life. So, if you're looking for a loving companion and are willing to open your heart and home, don't let FIV scare you away. These cats are waiting to prove that love conquers all! And who knows? One of our FIV+ Superstars may steal your heart! 🐾 πŸ’•

Firstly, we have Gramps, a Floofy Grey Tabby Gentleman. Gramps is an original Cruickshank / Montgomery colony cat who fathered many kittens, and befriends every kitty who comes his way. Most FIV cats like Gramps are overly friendly towards other cats - hence why and how they become infected. As a retired colony cat who came into care depressed and with several degloved wounds, the last thing on Gramps's mind is fighting, and along with being desexed and the majority of his teeth removed, it is nearly impossible for Gramps to pass on FIV. Stray cats are also extremely hard to age, but Gramps is approx 6 years old.

Gramps is an adorably friendly, loving and chatty guy who soaks up all the attention and gets jealous when it's shared - much like his GF Vee πŸ˜… Patient, understanding and slow going is the way to these kitties hearts. They know exactly what they want and how they want it, and make fantastic companions and company cats. Gramps requires an indoor only home alongside his BFF Vee. They would be best suited to a quiet and relaxed home with no dogs or children.

Next we have King the Tuxedo Gentleman, another original colony cat from Trentham Colony, approx 3 years old. With a similar story to Gramps - King contracted FIV through the bully cat of his area - most colonies tends to have at least one. King is enjoying his retirement in care alongside other non-FIV cats, one in particular he's become good friends with, our previously abused and abandoned cat Megan. King has most of his teeth, but around other friendly and healthy cats, we have no concern or worry about spread through fighting - we ensure everyone gets along before even contemplating if an FIV cat can eventually mix with non-FIV. Eventually King will be available for adoption - likely with his BFF Megan. Good with cats, small dogs and older children.

Then we have Nico, a kindhearted bashful Grey Floofy 6kg large and in charge sweetheart who wears his heart on his sleeve. Another cat friendly cat, I suspect Nico contracted FIV through the bully cat of the area - a kitty I plan to help as they're practically living at my back door. A handsome and picture purrfect poser, Nico is available for adoption, and also gets along well with other cats.

Approx 2-3 years old, Nico requires an indoor only home and is best suited to a quiet and relaxed family with no dogs, okay with older children.

Most recently we have Maverick, a rescued Tuxedo stray from Fairfield. Approx 3-5 years, poor Mav has lived it up rough and is still recovering from a tough life outdoors. With scabs from head to toe and a palm sized scab wound on his cheek, Maverick understandably does not like other cats. He's a big cheeked friendly and loving boy with an even bigger heart of gold, but can still be temperamental due to his healing ailments and slow easing testosterone. I'd love to find a confident and cat experienced Foster or Foster to Adopt home to dedicate to Mavericks recovery and journey. A foster home with cats is fine, given he has a separate area.

Last but not least we have the beautiful Tortie Autumn, but gratefully she is in a wonderful Foster to Adopt home! :D

ADOPTED!! πŸƒ 🎲 MR CHECKERS 🎲 πŸƒ

Prepare to be charmed! This kitten is an absolute **powerhouse of personality** packed into a purrfectly playful package!

Checkers is not just cute; he's a tiny tornado of fun! He *lives* for epic play sessions with his best bud (his "brother from another mother," as we like to call him!), tearing through the house like a furry little race car, conquering cat trees, and mastering the art of the tunnel zoom. 🐾

When he's not busy unleashing his inner tiger, he's a paper bag shredding, toy-wielding whirlwind of adorableness. Oh, and did we mention he's completely fearless and adores dogs? Talk about a well-rounded kitty!

But the best part? After a day of high-octane adventures, this little guy transforms into a **cuddle monster** with a purr engine that could power a small city. He'll snuggle right under your chin and shower you with the kind of affection that makes all the craziness worthwhile. If you're looking for a companion who's equal parts playful and cuddly, look no further - this is the kitty of your dreams!

Born mid March 2025, Checkers is being fostered in Wallaceville, Upper Hutt. If you'd like to meet him please fill in our adoption application form here: https://form.jotform.com/240831194278056

About Us

KittyCat Rehoming Wairarapa started in January 2017. The SPCA in the Wairarapa closed in 2015 and left a big gap in animal welfare in the area. Originally the group came into existence to rehome stray and abandoned cats, rehome cats for owners in difficult circumstances and tame feral kittens. KRW rehomed 33 cats and kittens in 2017 and 35 in 2018. Now that the SPCA in Masterton is open again and are looking after stray, abandoned and surrendered cats, KRW is concentrating on taming feral kittens and finding homes for them.

By taking in feral kittens and desexing the parents, KRW helps control the feral cat population and keep cats away from our wildlife. This decreases the feral cat population in a humane manner and not only improves the welfare of the cats, but of the environment as a whole.

Feral kittens are fostered by a network of foster carers until they can be adopted. Whether a kitten can be tamed is dependent on their age and temperament. The optimum age to tame a feral kitten is 8 weeks and under. Older kittens can be successfully tamed depending on their individual temperament but once they reach 16 weeks of age it becomes very difficult. It can take months of care before a kitten is ready to adopt.

Our adoption fee for kittens is $140. This helps cover the costs of desexing, vaccinating and treating for parasites. We also offer reduced rates to adopters for microchipping.
