Our Canterbury Tails working bee is this Sunday! The main job is adding bird wire to the fences so the ducks don’t head off on their own adventures.

No experience needed at all — just a willingness to lend a hand! We’ll show you what to do. 💚

There’s plenty else to help with too: cleaning chicken coops, refreshing the pigs’ bedding, scrubbing troughs, filling feeders, topping up bird water and filling holes. Every job makes a difference for the animals.

📅 Sunday 4 October — rain or shine
🕘 Arrive between 9–9:15am for a welcome and group introduction, ready to start at 9:30am.
📍 West Eyreton

Bring sturdy footwear, a drink bottle and gloves if you have them. Any useful tools you can bring along would be appreciated too.

We’ll share vegan kai together, so you’re welcome to bring a vegan plate for morning tea/lunch ….there is always plenty 🌱

We’re so grateful to everyone who gives their time. It’s lovely to come together, get stuck in and see how much we can achieve for the animals.

WE HAVE A WINNER! 🎉🎉

Our very first Canterbury Tails raffle was officially drawn at The Warehouse Rolleston on Sunday, and the winning ticket was 99 D, belonging to Shah Smith! 🥳

Shah has been contacted, has confirmed her win and is absolutely thrilled. A huge congratulations to Shah and her family—the prize will be staying local in Rolleston!

What a journey this raffle has been. Thank you to every single person who bought a ticket, helped sell them, shared our posts or cheered us on. Every $5 ticket has helped support the animals in our care. 💛

We are yet to finalise the paperwork, but we sold 600 tickets!

An enormous thank you to The Warehouse Rolleston for donating the incredible entertainment bundle and helping us with the draw, and to Animates Papanui, The Green Dinner Table, Christchurch Vegan Night Mākete, Oxford Market , Aaron and Dora and the University of Canterbury for supporting our ticket sales.

We genuinely couldn’t have done this without all of you.

SOMEWHERE IN THIS JAR IS OUR WINNER!!! 😳🎉

Ticket sales for Canterbury Tails’ very first raffle have officially closed, and tonight all those little ticket stubs are together in the jar.

When I look at this jar, I don’t just see tickets. I see weeks of carrying ticket books everywhere, setting up stalls, putting myself and Canterbury Tails out there even when I felt nervous—and so many wonderful people choosing to support us.

Tomorrow morning we’ll complete one final check against every ticket book and count the entries. Then, at 2pm tomorrow at The Warehouse Rolleston, one ticket will be drawn to win the incredible PlayStation 5, 50-inch TV and home theatre sound system!

A huge thank you to everyone who gave us somewhere to sell, promoted the raffle or sold tickets on our behalf:

We’re growing our foster / adopt database so that when a farm animal needs help, we know who may have a suitable temporary home nearby.

Joining doesn’t commit you to saying yes. We’ll simply contact you when an animal in your area needs foster care, explain what’s involved, and you can decide whether it’s right for you at the time.

A spare paddock, secure run, shed or safe little piece of land could save a life.
