Our local parkrun, Lake2Lake Trail recently started an unofficial register for its 4-legged participants. Our border collie Mister has been chasing his 10 milestone and finally ticked it off this weekend earning the white bib!
Congratulations Mister!! 🐕 🤍 🎉

Got a dog who loves to chew? Obviously munching your favorite running shoes isn’t cute... but did you know chewing for dogs actually had loads of benefits and should be encouraged... obviously not with shoes! 👟🥾👞

There is the well known dental hygiene benefits of chewing something hard, but it doesn’t end there....

Chewing is a primal and instinctual activity. It releases endorphins which heighten the sense of pleasure and well-being. It also provides mental and physical stimulation which helps behaviour stability. Dogs that chew something hard like a bone, a chew toy, or say *cough* a Yakkity Zac’s hard milk chew, typically settle well and are loads calmer afterwards. Our 'first customer' and the inspiration behind Yakkity Zac's... our very own, Mister Doggy Dogster.

Mister will be celebrating his fourth birthday later this year and is absolutely mad for a game of fetch, a swim, or a combination of both. He is always keen for a catch up with friends at our local Lake2Lake Trail parkrun and loves our Yakkity Zac's hard milk chews, authentically made, and all the way from Nepal. He gives them a 5 paw rating and reckons your dog will love them too 🐾❤️

Our happy dog, Mister Doggy Dogster with his Yakkity Zac's - a long lasting hard dog chew that is completely natural, digestible and rich in nutrients. Made with Himalayan Yak Milk, these delicious sticks are manufactured by hand and traditionally smoke dried in Nepal.

Having grown up in India, this type of chew was hugely popular in the Himalayas. When Mister joined our family so we went looking for a similar chew for him, but couldn't really find a quality authentic Yak stick in New Zealand... so we set out to bring them here ourselves.

We're all but sold out of our first 'batch' and have been absolutely thrilled with the response and uptake from our four-legged customers. Thank you everyone for your support and reviews!

More are currently on their way from Nepal and we can't wait to be able to share the good news of their arrival in NZ! You'll notice some small tweaks to our packaging, but inside are the same great Yakkity Zac's Dog Chews your doggo will go crazy for.

The Yakkity Zac's story -
I, Sagar come from the Himalayan town of Darjeeling, long steeped in history for its iconic mountain ranges, beautiful lush green hills and of course loose leaf tea (the foundation of our other business One Eighty South). Laura is a born and bred Southlander who grew up exploring the mountains and lakes of Fiordland. We met in Milford Sound many moons ago and now reside in Te Anau.

3 years ago we welcomed Mister Doggy Dogster to our whanau and whilst looking for a healthy and durable chew for him during his teething months, I had a lightbulb moment... “Yak chews!”

I had grown up munching on these hard yak milk chews as a child in India and I knew it was now a popular dog treat. They however proved difficult to find in New Zealand, so Laura and I set out to start importing these chews ourselves, authentically made, direct from the Himalayan Mountains. And hence Yakkity Zac's was born - an ancient and enriching treat for your furry dog friends!

Yakkity Zac’s Dog Chews - a relatively 'new' product here in Aotearoa, this ancient and enriching recipe from the Himalayan Mountains has been around for generations!

Want to know more about these hard tasty treats and how they are made?

It all starts with the Yak. The milk gets delivered from Yak farms, local dairies and individual herders in the Himalayas. The milk is then turned into a cheese, the cream removed (making them low in fat) and a small amount of lime juice and salt added to coagulate & harden the milk.
The coagulated solids are then compressed in muslin cloth until most of the moisture has been removed, and formed into blocks. These are left to rest for a few days until they are ready to be cut.
Finally they are hung on a wire grid in a smoking shed and smoke dried for 28 days, giving them their subtle smokey flavour and colouration.

Packed, wrapped and shipped, we are so proud to bring this tasty and long lasting treat to . Rich in nutrients, completely natural, and easily digestible, your furry friend will love Yakkity Zac's! Try them!
