Gigi starting off 2026 with his race day morning ritual walk and trot before heading to Ellerslie today to contest the Queen Elizabeth II Cup at 4.40pm. An exciting start to our new year!

Super proud of our hearty boy Gigi. Talk about courage. Last at the 150m mark in the Group 2 Countries Cup, nowhere to go, cops a couple of bumps on his way through and still runs 5th, just 0.8 lengths off the winner (white shadow roll out wide) A serious effort. His turn isn’t far away 🙏🏼

We’re so proud of our Gigi in taking out the Bayleys Tauranga 2100 at Tauranga today. Talk about heart. Great to pick up another victory for the Matijasevich whānau under their Markwood Lodge banner 🇭🇷. Great ride by George Rooke! Within an hour of his race he’s in the paddock with his mate Gospodin (who run an awesome race for 5th) for a couple of days to freshen up before the Counties Cup in 3-weeks. Mauri ora!

Really happy to train the 300th winner of Jim’s career with Gigi for the Matijasevich whānau at Te Rapa today. Only a small team in work it was a great thrill! Looking forward to heading back in 2-weeks for another crack!
