Green means go! It’s time to register your dog for the 2026/27 year.

Registration fees help fund essential services including education and safety programmes across the community and maintaining dog shelter facilities to care for lost or stray dogs, and rehoming dogs that come into our care.

They also support our response to barking, roaming, or aggressive dog complaints, the installation and upkeep of poo bag dispensers, maintaining our registration database of more than 15,000 dogs, and monitoring leash rules and dog-prohibited areas.

Register before 1 August to avoid late fees.

👉 Register online here www.tauranga.govt.nz/dogrego or visit a Council Library Community Hub.

With Cyclone Vaianu expected to impact Tauranga on Sunday, now's the time to make sure you and your animals are prepared.

• Make sure dogs and cats are wearing named collars
• Take dogs outside on leads only - frightened dogs can bolt in bad weather
• If your dog usually lives outside, bring them into a garage or safe shelter

It’s also a good idea to have an emergency grab bag ready with supplies for everyone in your household - including your pets. For emergency planning advice, visit Get Ready: https://getready.govt.nz/en/

The SPCA has helpful advice on how to prepare animals for emergencies:
https://www.spca.nz/advice.../article/animals-in-emergencies

If you spot flooding, fallen trees, or slips, please call Council on 07 577 7000 with the exact location if possible.

Check in on whānau, friends, and neighbours, and stay safe out there.💛

Cyclone Vaianu is expected to impact Tauranga on Sunday, 12 April, bringing damaging winds, heavy rain, and the potential for significant coastal inundation. Now is a good time to make sure you, your whānau, and your property are safe and prepared for the weekend.
