With Inja nearing 5 years old, an overwhelming realisation hit me that if he is to mentor a pup, I am best to act pronto.

6 months of looking through pups and communication with breeders, we found her. Her temperament, large ears and solid black coat with white flecked neck-chest are on-point.

This decision was possible knowing Inja’s calm nature, training on & off-lead and gentle mannerisms would allow me to concentrate on training Bedde without having to worry about his movements.

We are doing our utmost to keep Inja first and not leave him feeling left out. We want him to love her and not resent. He’s tolerating amazingly.

There’s no way we could add to our family while having doubts on his training or behaviour.

💦 Aqua Paws is heading into its last week. We are very sorry to be closing after 7 years of helping the dogs of Dunedin with their health journey, but it is time to look after our own health. We hope you all understand 💕

One of our current clients reminded us yesterday of why Aqua Paws began in the first place, and that was to help improve the health of our canine clients through hydrotherapy.

Scout is a 2-year-old Fox Terrier referred to us from vsa_hospital in Christchurch after suffering an acute neurological disorder in December, which left him paralysed. Scout has the determination of a typical Terrier and along with his caring dad, Animal Physio Aoraki and VSA we have been lucky to be part of his journey to walk again.

We both shed a tear yesterday when we received a video of Scout walking unaided from his front door to the gate of his property. Check out the video in the comments ⬇️

We could not be happier for Scout and his family, and his story epitomises why we began this journey.

Thank you to all our clients over the years who have trusted us with their canine companions. It has been an absolute pleasure to be a part of their lives.

RECALL
A crucial training fundamental.

"I'm unsure my dog will come back to me if I let him off-leash."

Having an established trust between you and your dog is fundamental when reinforcing recall. With multiple and varying distractions such as noises, smells, dogs, humans, sticks (the list goes on) while out walking, you cannot blame dogs for wanting to explore. And so they should!

But..without strong reinforcement through yourself, you are likely to experience a time-wasting, frustrating and potentially embarrassing situation. We've all been there, but it can be corrected with proper training and experience. With years of recall training, I will train your furry friend to return by the side no matter the situation.

Deciding on how to manage their poor outcomes are entirely up to you. My advice would be to remain calm and in-control, while asserting dominance. If you heighten situations through yelling, raising a hand or boot, you could do far more damage than you expect.

If you are wishing you could let your dog roam while remaining in-control and are struggling to do so, please get in touch and we'll walk through the training together.
