Pet Vets Manurewa is excited to be part of this great initiative by Auckland Council!
Free Desexing is only available to registered dogs which have been selected by Auckland Council. The dog owners would have received an email from Auckland Council advising about this offer.

Desexing offers a range of health and behavioural benefits for your dog while also helping to reduce the number of unwanted puppies in the community!

We recently held round two of our community desexing with the incredible support of the Otara-Papatoetoe Local Board 👏 Thank you to the owners of the dogs who stepped up and applied!

Shelters and rescue groups in New Zealand are overflowing. Help us to tackle the issue at its core - the more dogs that are desexed, the less unwanted litters, roamers and strays in the community. The link to our givealittle is in our bio, any help is hugely appreciated.

FREE DOG DESEXING – YOU COULD BE ELIGIBLE
SNIP NZ and the Ōtara-Papatoetoe Local Board have teamed up to offer dog desexing to our community members who may be struggling in this hard time.

If you’d like your dog desexed there are some conditions.
YOUR DOG MUST
- be a mix-breed/bully breed male dog older than 6 months
- have testicles descended (‘have dropped’)
YOU MUST:
- live in Ōtara/Papatoetoe and have proof of address – post codes 2023 or 2025 only as per the NZ Post postcode finder - https://www.nzpost.co.nz/tools/address-postcode-finder
- be able to, or find, transport on the day we give you (Weekday. Drop off by 9am and pick up by 6pm the same day)

If you’d like to apply for free desexing and fit the above criteria, please complete this form and we will be in contact with you: https://forms.gle/HeaJoL2tYa4DUpe9A

Please note: There are limited spaces available. SNIP has sole discretion on who can use this offer and they have the right to deny your application. If your dog displays aggressive behaviour you will be turned away at your appointment or required to pay for extra sedation out of your own pocket. We are all volunteers, which means we may be slow to reply - so please be patient.

This offer is for people who are genuinely struggling to get their dog desexed. If you can afford to do this yourself please do not apply.

This offer is not available for rescue organisations or breeders.

7 reasons why your dog does NOT need "just one litter"...

1 - there are NO proven health or behavioural benefits despite what your parents have been taught

2 - there ARE massive health risks associated with pregnancy and birth including uterine torsion, emergency C section and fetal death

3 - you’d be contributing to the over-population crisis of dogs in NZ

4 - litters can be as big as 14 or even 16 puppies and you would be solely responsible for finding good homes, and to ensure their ongoing wellbeing including getting them desexed

5 - there’s no money in selling puppies when the market is too heavily saturated

6 - dog pregnancy and puppy care is expensive - food, bedding, birthing space, flea and worming, vet care, extra washing, damage to your property and stuff to name a few

7 - caring for a litter of puppies is time-consuming, constant cleanup, healthcare, training, and socialisation needs

Imagine if everyone who got a puppy had "just one litter" - we already have an unwanted puppy epidemic, please don't make it worse.

I have now spent all $5,000 of my own money to desex animals around my community. I have been approaching owners in a positive way with food, advice, toys etc and offering free desexing to try combat the over population crisis we have in New Zealand. If you have any change to spare, please donate straight to the give a little, or share the link 🐶♥️

Time to make a change to the way we approach the animal over population crisis in New Zealand by offering free desexing to those in need.
