Wort & Flea Our Story - As long as I can remember, there’s two things I’ve been passionate about during my life – a love of animals, and photography.

Wort & Flea Pet Photography is the destination location, where I will capture the love of your fur baby being themselves in beautiful scenic, bold and colourful, personality filled portraits. Whether it’s preserving memories for you to love for a lifetime or working with rescues to help their animals get adopted more quickly, being able to combine my two passion’s is nothing short of a dream. I gr

ew up with cats and loved animals so much that at the young age of 8, I made the decision to go vegetarian, and still am today. I am surrounded by both cats and dogs now, Wort & Flea, Mooky & The Fuzz, The Border 9, Bliss & Ollie – quite the pack and a handful, especially as they are now all seniors, and many have illnesses. But my husband and I love them all the same, maybe even more so, for the way they depend on us so much more to care for them in their senior years and the unconditional love they give. I feel so very lucky to live in this beautiful place known as, the land of the long white cloud – New Zealand. Based in rural Auckland with access to acres of farmland and the river, there is no shortage of opportunities to capture and preserve beautiful memories of my fur babies. After recently surviving breast cancer, there was no better time than the present for me to pursue my passion of photography and love of animals, and start living my dream. If you would like me to capture the love and preserve those special memories of your beloved fur baby, then please contact me to arrange either a rural farmland session, or a session at your favourite location. With such a love of animals I easily connect with any new fur baby I meet and can easily help put them at ease, their safety and enjoyment my number one priority throughout the session. Am I the only one that thinks this year is whizzing by quicker than ever? Can you believe that we are nearly half way through the year?

This is the gorgeous MJ that I photographed last month at my Sony Scene Event, where I taught a lovely group of people how to take better photos of their dog, in our photo walkabout at Auckland Domain. A big thank you to Carole for bringing MJ out, he was a superstar!

I am running a special Sony Scene Event on Saturday 31st May at Farm House Café in Clevedon, fundraising for breast cancer as part of their May pink ribbon events. Those that know me, will know this is a cause close to my own heart, as a breast cancer survivor myself.

First there will be a one hour photo walk challenge, where you will have the opportunity to photograph sheep, alpaca, water buffalo and a giant dog statue! This will be followed by a delectable high tea, which you can also photograph if you can stop yourself from diving in to eat it too quickly!

If you haven't been to Farm House Café, they are world famous in NZ for their cinnamon buns and their food is delicious!

And, you can also bring your dog along as well, as they are a dog friendly café!

So, if a scenic stroll to capture some nature images followed by a high tea, with or without your pup sounds like fun, please book to come along. A portion of each ticket sold will be going towards fundraising for this very important cause.

I met Frankie and his beautiful family in October 2023 for their Farm Experience, Branden, Indi, their baby daughter Stella, and of course, Frankie himself, an 8 year old chocolate Labrador mix with a heart as big as the sky.

Frankie’s story is the kind that stays with you. As a pup, he was rescued from a dog fighting ring and taken to the pound, his siblings weren’t as lucky. Branden was volunteering there at the time, going through a life-shifting moment of his own, and when he met Frankie, something just clicked. They were both a bit broken, both needing someone to trust. So they chose each other. And in the years since, they’ve been each other’s everything, best mates, lifelines, confidantes.

As Indi shared with me, “He really thinks of Frankie as his son… they both saved each other's lives.”

Frankie is getting older now, there are signs in his memory, in the way he moves, in how quickly he tires. Frankie had recently undergone major leg surgery, and while recovery had been slow, his spirit was still very much intact. Frankie's enthusiastic, full of heart, and simply wants to be part of whatever his family are doing. And when you’ve got a rubber cactus to fetch and some cheese or ham on offer? Even better.

It was incredibly special to capture Frankie with Branden, Indi and little Stella, who was just 13 months old. A family bound by love, resilience, and a whole lot of heart. Frankie’s presence in their lives has been nothing short of transformative. And now, through these images and memories, he’ll always have a place on their walls and in their home. A gentle, enduring reminder of the dog who saved a man, and the family who wrapped him in love.

I met Sydney, her devoted paw-rents and grand paw-rent in November 2024 for their Farm Experience. A 2 year old Cavoodle, this sweet girl is full of personality, a little bit cheeky, a whole lot of energy, and absolutely adored by her family.

Sydney is very photogenic and her paw-rents know it! Sydney is the star of their world and camera roll, and it’s safe to say she knows it too. Sydney has been perfectly trained to sit still for photos, making capturing her beauty a breeze!

Sydney can be a little shy at first, but after a few minutes' walk on the farm, it didn't take her long to warm up, and out came her hilarious little personality, full of bounce, sass, and joy.

Watching Sydney tear through the long grass was so much fun, leaping through it like a spring-loaded bunny. For Sydney's action shots, she even launched herself airborne right over a log, with the kind of joyful bounce only she could pull off.

Sydney loves her ball and frisbee and is driven by treats, especially cheese! If Sydney's distracted and having too much fun, not coming back when called, then the offer of cheese works every time!

It was such a joy capturing the connection Sydney shares with her paw-rents, one filled with loyalty, laughter, and a touch of that “madam” energy her mum described, that makes her so wonderfully herself and has her paw-rents wrapped around her tail. Sydney might be pint-sized, but she fills their hearts with so much love, laughter, and life.

I met Stella, Comet & Nova late February 2024 with both their paw-rents coming for their Farm experience. Stella, Shetland Sheep Dog, aged 12 years at the time, Comet, Whippet, 10 years at the time and Nova, Rough Collie, 1 year at the time. What a gorgeous trio these three are!

Stella, despite her senior age, was still high energy and didn't show her age at all the entire time, her paw-rents weren't wrong when they said she was a very independent girl who loves attention. Comet, definitely lived up to her reputation of being a bit shy, but did have bursts of energy and was definitely a Daddies girl! Nova didn't show her shyness at all and was super loving and attentive. Living locally on a small farm themselves, all the pups were used to being around, sheep, cows, pigs, ducks, chickens, alpaca's and cats!

Sheryl said "Andrew had always had a dog in his life from when he was young, we lost his dog and he felt life was empty without one. We decided on one each and arranged with the breeders that we would get babies from litters around the same time, however the breeder of the Whippet decided to keep the puppy at the 11th hour, so we just had Stella for the first 14 months then we got Comet. Both dogs are getting on a bit now so we decided to get Nova last year, which has worked out well for the other two, as they act and behave younger and get more exercise."

Stella, Comet & Nova had so much fun exploring the farm, they love treats of all kinds, including cheese and carrots. This trio of beautiful pups were all so photogenic and such a joy to photograph. It was a wonderful time to spend the afternoon with Stella, Comet and Nova, and their paw-rents, and to be able to capture memories of them all together.
