🐾 Microchips Save Lives – Here’s How! 🐾

Did you know a microchip is one of the most important ways to keep your pet safe?

🔍 What is a Microchip?
A microchip is a tiny device (about the size of a grain of rice) placed under your pet’s skin. It contains a unique identification number that can be scanned by vets, shelters, and councils — but has no GPS or tracking features.

📋 But here’s the key part: The chip itself doesn’t hold your contact info — it links to a pet database (like the national animal register) where your details must be registered and kept up to date.
If it’s not registered, we can’t contact you!

Your vet clinic can register your details at the same time they implant the chip so be sure it give them the correct and current contact details.

🐶🐱 Why Microchips Matter:
They help lost pets get home faster
They prove ownership in case of disputes
Collars and tags can fall off — chips don’t!

✅ Already chipped your pet? Great! Now go double-check that your details are up to date at your registry.

🐾Update On Our Two Little Kittens 🐾

Two weeks ago, these two tiny new born kittens were brought into our clinic, and thanks to the care of one of our dedicated staff members, they’re doing great. She’s been hand-raising and feeding them, and they’re growing stronger every day. 🍼

Today marks an exciting milestone—their eyes have finally started to open! 👀

Now that they’re getting bigger, we’re looking for name suggestions for these two little boys. Got any ideas? We’d love to hear your thoughts!

Drop your name suggestions in the comments below! We’ll keep you updated on their progress. 🐱

About us.

Vets on Riverbank, is the culmination of over 40 years of continuous veterinary service to the Otaki, Horowhenua and Kapiti district.

When Graham Carthew commenced practice in the early 1970’s much of today’s technology was in its infancy and “lifestyle blocks” had not been heard of. Most of the work was either out on dairy farms or back in the clinic attending to household pets.

The practice has seen many generations of companion animals pass through the clinic from puppy and kitten vaccinations through to geriatric treatments. With the advancements in technology comes improvement in digital radiology and ultrasound. Ongoing development in medicine and surgical techniques ensures our small animal team continues to provide your pet with the best care and attention available.

Vets on Riverbank are now the only clinic on the Kapiti Coast and within the Horowhenua district who offer a 24 hour onsite emergency service for our clients, provided by our hard working veterinarian team.
