My before and after of today’s groom of Cavalier King Charles Spaniel Nakotah Lucka! Such a good boy who loves getting groomed and handled. Gives the best hugs and doggie kisses too.

I see dogs with matting like this in my grooming salon. Matted coats and dogs with areas of matted coat restricts the skins movement when the dog moves and can cause the dog pain. Line brushing your dog is a must do if you’re wanting a great looking mat and knot free coat that your groomer can style to look fantastic. If you don’t put in the work at home your groomer can only clip or shave your dog.

Ear infections in dogs are common but today’s groom of a lovely dog I’d not yet had the pleasure of seeing had a very nasty looking ear infection. They will be visiting a vet for this ear. The photos show what I removed from the infected ear which was rather stinky. The dogs demeanour changed after removal of the gunk and hair to a much happier chappy.
Dogs experience pain from ear infections so please inspect your dogs ears regularly and clean them and ensure they get ear hair removed if they are a breed that requires this.

With the warmer wet weather there will be lots of grass seeds around. They get caught up in the coat and can manage to work their way into the skin and then travel and cause an infection. Best to prevent it in the first place by a thorough daily brush and inspection of areas not easily brushed or seen such as in between the paws and in under the elbows and under the back legs in the groin areas.
