We thank you for your understanding whilst we had the clinic open for emergencies and retail only today!

Our anaesthetic Nurses and a few of our Vets spent the day in training with Marcia from The Pink Stethoscope learning valuable, vital and life saving prevention techniques whilst we look after your pets during an anaesthetic.

Marcia covered some really important anaesthesia subjects including anaesthesia in heart failure, emergency patients, respiratory complications, pain management and top avoidable anaesthetic accidents.

Knowledge is power in this girl squad 💪🏻💕

Before opening day of duck season, make sure your four-legged mate is just as prepared as you are 🦆🐕

Pop into The Vet Clinic and grab a Pet First Aid Kit — small, handy, and packed with essentials for those unexpected moments.

And don’t forget to worm your dog, at least 48 hours before heading out onto farm properties. It’s a simple step that helps prevent the spread of sheep measles — something every farmer will appreciate.

Good preparation keeps everyone safe — happy hunting!

One in a million, but this week one of five!

Meet Leuk, a handsome Labrador who recently took his taste-testing duties a bit too far and unfortunately, a stray bit of rubber caught his eye and got stuck in his small intestine leading to an unplanned adventure at the clinic.

Leuk’s owners knew something was wrong when their bouncy boy suddenly stopped acting like himself. They spotted the classic warning signs:

•Vomiting and diarrhea
•Lethargy (unusual tiredness)
•Off his food which is the ultimate "tell-tale" sign for a Labrador!

When a pet swallows a "foreign body," it often requires an Exploratory Laparotomy (ExLap). This is a surgery where our vets examine the abdomen to find and remove the blockage. It was a late night surgery, but Leuk’s surgery was a huge success!
And guess what? He wasn't alone either our team handled an incredible five ExLap surgeries in just one week!

Foreign body surgeries can be complex and sudden.

To stay prepared for the unexpected:
•Act Fast: If your pet is vomiting or refuses food, contact your vet immediately.
•Financial Safety Net: Consider comprehensive pet insurance or keeping a dedicated "emergency fund" in your vet account to ensure your pet gets the care they need without the added stress.

Leuk is now recovering beautifully and is back to his handsome, happy self! 🐾

🐾 Stay Snug, Stay Safe!
With some "interesting" weather on the horizon, we wanted to send a quick reminder to keep your furry friends tucked up inside with you. Our friend Little Grey has already found her new place for the next couple of days! ⛈️

While we never quite know the full impact until the weather arrives, it’s always best to be one step ahead! Bringing pets indoors early helps keep them calm and prevents them from getting spooked by heavy rain or high winds.

A few quick tips:

🏠 Inside is best: Bring them in before the weather picks up.

🐕 Extra cuddles: A quiet corner with their favorite blanket goes a long way.

🆔 Check those collars: Just in case a gate blows open, make sure IDs are up to date.

As we head into the long weekend, we want to wish all our wonderful clients and their furry family members a safe and happy Easter.

Easter Dos and Don'ts for Pets
While the family enjoys the festivities, keep these safety tips in mind to avoid an emergency visit:

THE DON'TS
❌ Chocolate: All chocolate is toxic to dogs and cats, but dark chocolate and baking cocoa are the most dangerous.
❌ Xylitol: This artificial sweetener is often found in "sugar-free" candies and can be fatal to dogs.
❌ Hot Cross Bun Raisins: Grapes, raisins, and currants can cause kidney failure in pets. Keep the buns on the high counter!
❌ Lilies: Many Easter lilies are highly toxic to cats—even a small amount of pollen can cause serious illness.
❌ Plastic Grass: That colorful "nesting" in Easter baskets is a major choking hazard and can cause intestinal blockages if swallowed.

THE DO’s
✅ Pet-Safe Treats: Stick to their usual treats or small pieces of plain, cooked carrot or apple (no seeds).
✅ The "Quiet Zone": If you’re hosting a big family lunch, give your pet a quiet, safe space to retreat to if the noise gets too much.
✅ Quick Action: If you suspect your pet has eaten something they shouldn't have, call us immediately or contact your local emergency vet.

Wishing you all a special weekend! 🐾🐰
