PUPPIES AND MUM 🐶

Feeding Mum:
Pregnant and nursing bi***es should be fed a high quality puppy food, not adult dog food.

Puppy food provides:
✔ Extra energy needed for pregnancy and milk production
✔ Higher protein for healthy puppy growth
✔ Essential nutrients such as calcium for strong bones and development

During late pregnancy and throughout lactation, mum’s nutritional needs increase significantly. She may need smaller meals more often and fresh water should always be available.

🐾 Caring for Newborn Puppies:
✔ Provide a warm, quiet, and clean area for mum and pups
✔ Monitor puppies closely to ensure they are feeding and gaining weight
✔ Avoid unnecessary handling in the first few days
✔ Keep bedding dry and hygienic
✔ Watch for any signs of illness in mum or puppies

If you have any concerns about mum or her puppies, early advice can make all the difference.

Our team at Keinzley Agvet is always happy to help with guidance and support 💚

Grass seeds might look harmless but they can cause serious problems for pets, especially dogs, during the warmer months.

Grass seeds have sharp barbs that allow them to:
• Get stuck in ears
• Embed between toes
• Enter the eyes, nose, mouth or skin
• Migrate deeper into the body if left untreated.

⚠️ Signs to watch for:
• Sudden limping or constant licking of a paw
• Head shaking or painful ears
• Squinting, red or watery eyes
• Sneezing or nasal discharge
• Swelling, redness or discharge from the skin

🐾 Prevention tips:
• Check your dog thoroughly after walks, especially paws, ears and underarms
• Keep hair trimmed around feet and ears
• Avoid long grass and weedy areas where possible

⏰ Act early
If you suspect a grass seed, early treatment is essential. Leaving it can lead to infection, abscesses or more invasive procedures.

📞 If you’re concerned your pet may have a grass seed, contact the clinic on 06 377 3819 as soon as possible for advice or an appointment.
