✨SHARING this great advice on dogs & the heat:
🔥 Heatstroke Alert 🔥
We are seeing an alarming amount of dogs suffering from heatstroke over the past few weeks.
If an animal feels too hot for too long, they’re unable to maintain their internal body temperature. This can result in your pet becoming critically unwell, suffering from heatstroke, which can result in death.
Cats do a better job at maintaining their temperature and you will often find them seeking out shady cool spots during the day.
Remember all animals are different so there is no set temperature that is too hot. Things to take into account are your pets age, health and breed. Brachycephalic breeds are more at risk of heatstroke as they find breathing more difficult than other breeds so extra care must be taken.
🚨 Signs of Heatstroke 🚨
➡ Rapid breathing, or excessive panting/drooling
➡ Restlessness and unsteadiness
➡ Vomiting and diarrhea
➡ Abnormal tongue and gum colour - will appear blue
➡ Collapse
If you find an animal suffering from heat stroke:
➡ Move into shade or an air conditioned area
➡ Offer water to drink, but don't force it
➡ Soak the animal in cool water (using wet towels, do not immerse in water) and use air movement to help cooling
➡ Attempt cooling, and call the clinic ASAP
