🐾✨ NEW IN STORE: The "Rescue & Refresh" Rack! ✨🐾
At the Kumeu SPCA Op Shop, we believe everything (and everyone!) deserves a second chance at a happy home. That’s why we’ve just launched our brand-new Rescue & Refresh clothing rack!

These are items that are perfectly imperfect. They might be missing a single button, need a quick run-over with a lint roller, or have a tiny, easily fixable hole—but they still have so much life left in them!

If you love a good thrift flip, know your way around a sewing needle, or just want to score an absolute steal, this rack is for you.🧵

Come grab a bargain, show these pieces a little love, and give them the forever home they deserve. See you in store! 🐶🐱💚

Important message for teachers! 📚️🎓️🍎 Our SPCA Live Education Webinars are returning for Term 3!

Intended for both primary and intermediate students, these free webinars run by our Education team are a fun and engaging way to teach tamariki about animal welfare.

SPCA is all about prevention - it's in our very name. By teaching young learners as much as we can about animal care and welfare, we can inspire a kinder generation and prevent cruelty in the future 🙏 These webinars help to do just that!

Spaces are limited! You can find out more about the webinars, and teachers can learn how to register via our site: https://www.spca.nz/news-and-events/news-article/live-education-webinars-return

🐾 What a purrfect day! 🐾

A huge thank you to everyone who came along to our Kitten Adoption Day at Petdirect Mt Wellington 💙

We’re so excited to share that 13 kittens found their forever homes! 🏡🐱

It was amazing to see so many people opening their hearts and homes, and we couldn’t have done it without the support of our wonderful community, the team at Petdirect and our SPCA staff who made today happen!

To everyone who adopted.. thank you for giving these little ones the loving futures they deserve. And to those still looking, don’t worry.. we have plenty more adorable animals waiting to meet you! https://www.spca.nz/adopt 🐾

It’s National Volunteer Week, and we’re celebrating the winners of our 2026 SPCA Purina New Zealand National Volunteer Awards! 🎉

Up next is the winner of our Young Volunteer Award – Alorah Gillgren from our Māngere Centre! 🏆️

Alorah’s compassion, dedication, and versatility have made a remarkable impact at SPCA in a short period of time. Since beginning volunteering in late 2024, she has become a reliable and highly-valued member of the team, known for her hard-working and caring nature.

In addition to her on-site volunteering, Alorah is an exceptional foster parent. She has fostered more than twenty animals, including rabbits, kittens, and puppies, and is one of our trusted “bottle baby” fosterers. Caring for vulnerable neonate animals requires patience, resilience, and emotional strength - all qualities Alorah demonstrates with maturity and dedication.

At just 19 years of age, Alorah has been able to show commitment and maturity far beyond her years. Congratulations Alorah 🙏 On behalf of the animals, thank you for working so hard!

🌟 Volunteer of the Month – May 🌟

A huge congratulations to Trish, our May Volunteer of the Month! 🎉

Through our new partnership with Wiri Trust House, Trish will be receiving a $75 voucher to Woodside Bar as a small thank you.

Trish is incredibly committed to her role and consistently goes the extra mile, even when the work isn’t always glamorous. She takes real pride in what she does and is always looking for ways to improve how things are done, making a meaningful difference behind the scenes.

We’re so grateful to have Trish as part of our volunteer team. Thank you for everything you do for the animals in our care 💙🐾

📣 Puppies Before Profit – Bring in Breeder Laws! 📣

Today, we’re launching our Puppies Before Profit campaign, to raise awareness around New Zealand’s lack of dog breeding legislation and to build support for law reforms.

Currently, we’re FAR behind other countries when it comes to dog breeding laws. In New Zealand:

🐾 Anyone can breed and sell puppies
🐾 There are no restrictions on the number of breeding dogs a person can keep
🐾 There are no minimum supervision levels
🐾 There are no minimum or maximum ages for breeding
🐾 There are no maximum number of litters across a dog’s lifetime
🐾 There are no restrictions on close inbreeding.

Despite the current lack of specific rules, our recently commissioned survey found that 96% of New Zealanders think dog breeding should be regulated.

This isn’t a niche animal welfare issue. It’s something that New Zealanders deeply care about. We need clear, enforceable standards that apply to all breeders, and ensure every breeding dog receives appropriate care ❤️

🧡 URGENT DONATION APPEAL 🧡

With winter well and truly here, SPCA Māngere is urgently in need of dog blankets to help keep the dogs in our care warm, cosy, and comfortable during the colder months.

If you have any clean, gently used or new blankets to spare, we would be incredibly grateful for your support.

📍 Donations can be dropped off at SPCA Māngere
🕙 Open 10am–4pm, 7 days a week

We have donation bins located near our front reception, or simply see one of our lovely receptionists who will be happy to point you in the right direction.

As temperatures drop, every blanket helps provide warmth and comfort to animals waiting for their forever homes. Thank you for helping us care for those who need it most. 🐾❤️
