Don’t worry Morgan didn’t eat the whole biscuit. The sounds are just so cute 😍

Morgan is now our last lone rat. This does mean endless cuddles and adventures. He helped me put up some Christmas lights and found his way into our washing and has made himself a burrow that’s I was told off for looking at. I think thankfully Morgs is going to be okay 😁💕🐀

Around 1am this morning, we had to take the unfortunate trip to the emergency vets. Reid was showing end of life signs. He was having burst of energy, then he’d run a couple of steps then would lay completely flat, then he’d doing it all over again.

We’ve had multiple rats have the last big burst of energy before passing but this was just very different. He seemed in pain but he still wanted to be with us and roam on the bed.

This now leaves Morgan as our last rat. Considering both boys are 3 you’d think that Morgan was born yesterday. He’s an extremely healthy old man and doesn’t show signs of stopping.

We’ve decided that after Morgan passing that we will have a break from rats for a bit. Might be a year, might be more. The right rats will come along. However we do have a bunch of mice that are in the family that we haven’t shared and we will post about them soon.

We’re going to focus on Morgan and his grieving before we do so. Reid was the sweetest little guy anyone could ever meet. He went to school to meet a bunch of kids and he met families during Halloween.

Everyone who met Reid always loved him. We’re so happy to have taken the opportunity to adopt them (their OG owners were moving to Aus)

We love you so much Reid, thank you for being such a sweet man. We will miss you Dr Reid. 🐀💕

This week had to say goodbye to our final female rats. Oakley (brown and white) and Freya (grey). Both girls were nearing 3 and had tumours. Their bodies began to slow and we knew and the girls knew it was time. Oakley was put down last Sunday and Freya was today. This now leaves us with just Morgan and Reid.

These girls were our first sibling and cousin group. We’ve had sibling sets before but never siblings and a cousin. Oakley and Luca were full blood siblings and Freya was their cousin. We’re so extremely glad that we got them from as they’ve lived longs happy lives.

These girls really meant the world to us. They loved each other and helped out Bug when Sprout passed away. They also helped be big sisters to Willow and Asha when they came to us.

We’re forever grateful that they blessed us with their personalities. We will miss you forever and we love you so much our Oakalee Dokalee, Oak, Pokely, Frey, Lady Frey. 💕🐀🐀

About a week ago our sweet Luca passed away in her sleep with her sisters beside her. We knew Luca was going to pass at some point but didn’t think it would have been so soon and sudden. Thankfully she passed of old age and is now with the rest of her annoying sisters 😂 Oakley and Freya unfortunately aren’t too far behind Luca and neither is Prince. We knew we wouldn’t have some of our rats by Christmas but they’re all going so fast.

We’re so grateful to have had you in our lives. We miss you so so much Luca, Puka, puka shell, Luc. We love you so much. Rest easy gorgeous girl. 🐀

On Wednesday, I went in to feed everyone and couldn’t find Willow in her usual spot in the centre hammock. She had begun to burry herself in the back corner.

She had a respiratory infection we were trying to get on top off and beat, as well as a tumour on her side growing. We knew that she wasn’t beating this infection and she was trotting along just fine until recently.

I got her out of the cage and knew that she would be passing within the hour if not sooner. I rung up Upper Hutt Vets and they squeezed us in. Willow now had the record of our rats/mice with taking the longest to actually pass. She fought the sedation for at least 5 mins and then for 20 mins she fought the euthanasia. She would take shallow breaths so she could take one big one and continue pushing through.

Besides the streams of tears we did have a laugh about how she was very stubborn and had other plans or things she needing to be doing than passing.

We’re very happy she isn’t suffering anymore. Asha (her sister) has become a bit nippy/aggressive ish since her passing. She’s calming a bit as Luca, Oakley and Freya are helping her through the grieving but we’re far from doing okay at the moment. More cuddles and treats will settle her soon enough.

Love you forever and always miss Willamena, Willow, Little old lady. Well take care of Asha for you. 🐀💕
