It doesn’t get any easier for Albert as he hits the road again—this time heading to Te Aroha to contest the prestigious $75,000 Pakuranga Hunt Cup Steeplechase this Sunday.

It feels like a distant memory, but it was only three weeks ago that we were down south for the Grand National Carnival at Riccarton. Despite the demanding campaign, Albert has bounced back incredibly —pulling up well and showing no signs of fatigue. It’s as if he never left home.

With the jumping season drawing to a close, we’re still taking it one race at a time. Albert remains in great heart, and we’re hopeful he can put in an honest performance this weekend.

There’s a change in the saddle too, with newly imported rider Jordan Hart taking over the reins from Will Featherstone, who has now returned to the UK. We thank Will for his efforts and wish him all the best for the next chapter of his career at home.

As for Jordan and Albert—best of luck to the new pairing as they tackle another one of the season’s big tests against NZ's best jumpers!

An enthralling 150th running of the Racecourse Hotel & Motor Lodge Grand National Steeplechase at Riccarton on Saturday was just a little too tough for our Fat Albert over the final stages of the gruelling 5600m time honoured event. However this was not before giving us a sight for the first 5000m by leading or being very prominent throughout the iconic race. While we were unsuccessful on this occasion we are still very proud of Albert's effort and near perfect jumping exhibition against NZ's best jumpers.❤️ Well Done Albert better luck next time ! 🤞A big thank to our rider Will Featherstone for helping make the race the spectacle it was and a big thank you must also go to Caley Myers for her help on race day. Cheers Team ! 😎🤗

The time has arrived for Albert to contest Saturdays time honoured GRAND NATIONAL STEEPLECHASE. Albert has thrived this week and if anything has improved since finishing 7th in last weeks KORAL STEEPLECHASE. Will Featherstone rides Albert again for Saturdays GRAND NATIONAL which like last week will be no easy feat against NZ's best Steeplechasers. Albert was at big odds of over $80-1 earlier in the week which is a fair reflection of the huge task ahead of him this weekend. However we are happy just to have a runner in this iconic event and will be more than happy if he can complete the course and gets around safe and sound. The very best of luck to Will & Fat Albert!🍀🏇

Albert has arrived at Riccarton safe and sound in preparation for Saturdays KORAL STEEPLECHASE along with his Levin based Allen Baker trained travelling companion Mr Fabulous who will also race Saturday in the MAIDEN HURDLE. Rider Will Featherstone we're happy to say has stuck with Albert for Saturdays KORAL which will be no easy feat against NZ's champion and more experienced jumpers. The TAB bookmakers agree having Albert at odds of over $50-1. However we live in hope and wish both horse and rider the best of luck this weekend. Go Will & Fat Albert !

🏇 HEY HEY HEY (Albert) 8yo Bay Gelding (Shocking x Fairfield Flame by Oasis Dream)
After a competitive 3rd last start in the time honoured Hawkes Bay Steeplechase and doing well since we have decided to head south to Riccarton next week. Albert will target two iconic feature jumping races with the first being the $50,000 Koral Steeplechase (4250m) run on Saturday 2 August. Safely through that lead-up assignment we could back up a week later on August 9 in the famous 150th running of the $200,000 NZ Grand National Steeplechase over 5600m. We are under no illusions the size of the mountain Albert now must climb (not to mention the very large fences around the big Riccarton course) against New Zealand's best jumpers. 😬 He certainly isn't your typical looking steeplechaser who are usually tall and lean... quite different in appearance to our short legged dumpling. 😂 However he deserves a crack on current form and if nothing else it'll be a good learning curve as we look forward to next season. Wish us Luck Team! 🤞🤗

Today Albert contested the time honoured Hawkes Bay Steeplechase at Woodville competing against some of NZ's better steeplechasers finishing an exciting and very brave 3rd. In his very first season steeplechasing and at just his third start over the bigger fences he has come a long way in a short time. After today's commendable effort we will now have some serious thinking to do as to what options we could possibly take going forward... keeping in mind NZ's upcoming premier jumping races such as the $200,000 RACECOURSE HOTEL & MOTOR LODGE 150TH GRAND NATIONAL STEEPLECHASE 5600m at Riccarton in early August and the $200,000 GREAT NEW ZEALAND STEEPLECHASE 6200m at Te Aroha in mid September. We will assess how Albert does this week before making any concrete plans. A big thank you must go to Will Featherstone on another fine ride aboard Albert today as we look forward to keeping this association in the future. Well Done Will and Albert!
