It's SHOW PREP TIME!

Starlight Vigil LPE has come in, scruffy and muddy, from winter turnout.

He doesn't look like much at the moment, but give us a minute ;)

I thought it might be fun to show in the Golden Horse classes this year, and being a palomino tobiano he is also eligible for the Pinto rings.

Next steps will be to discuss the best possible show prep diet with our friends at Harvest Grains and to get him clipped and shining using products from The Honey Trap 🍯 ✨️

We're having a great catch up in Napier to check out the progress of Divine Astrology LPE and Hollywood Star LPE who are both with Rebecca Aplin schooling under saddle.

Both ponies are looking incredible, Woody is absolutely going to jump the moon and Leroy will do anything you ask of him while looking stunningly gorgeous at the same time- his HOY title wins and supremes in the show ring as youngstock were no fluke and he is carrying this quality on in his ridden work.

Today was also a very exciting day for Team rider Evie Banks as she met Hollywood Star for the first time and had a great first sit on him ✨️👏❤️

Hi everyone!

Hope your winter training and prep for the season is going well 👍

Lately, I've seen and been contacted for advice about quite a few "sour" horses, so I thought I'd write a wee spiel about the topic (of course based on my experience and opinion!)

Firstly, it's important to understand the difference between our human celebration and happiness over learning something new (we are generally just thrilled, and want to excitedly repeat it lots of times!!) and the horses understanding of when he has got something right.

For a person, we celebrate by repetition "WOOHOO I've learned something new! Let's do it again!!"

For your horse, repetition is telling him that he hasn't found the right answer yet "Why do I have to keep doing this, I must not be getting it right"

For example, if I have a plan to teach a new cue or add more finesse to an existing one, and the horse gets it right immediately, I immediately stop asking and change my plan for the rest of the session, because continuing to ask him would be telling him that he hasn't got it right.

It's very important to remember this, especially over winter months where a lot of us are limited to arenas and round pen work.

A chance meeting with someone who recognised me from The Honey Trap quickly turned into chats about their dogs, then their horses, and before I knew it, I was putting together a care pack tailored specifically to their animals and their needs.

The other day when I was chatting to Rebecca Aplin about the ponies, she mentioned that the canter was going well with Hollywood Star, so NATURALLY I suggested she have a crack at jumping it.

10/10 first attempt! No stop even considered!
