Pet pairs are the best! ๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿพ

Meet Hennessy & Alfie, the ginger and grey/white duo.

And Julien & Javad, the Siamese & Oriental siblings.

We love meeting duos, and seeing their different quirks and personalities combine into a beautiful partnership ๐Ÿ˜ป

(Hennessy was unable to pose, she was super into the treats ๐Ÿ˜น)

We hope everyone has a safe and enjoyable Easter weekend! ๐Ÿพ

We are so proud of our vet Dr Cathy Po***ck, who recently volunteered for a week in beautiful Samoa! ๐Ÿ’™

๐Ÿพ Cathy had this to say about her trip:

"The trip was organised by South Pacific Animal Welfare (SPAW) a New Zealand based charity who send volunteer veterinarians and vet nurses to provide veterinary care to animals living in Pacific Island communities. These communities often have no access to veterinary care at other times. The team was 5 volunteers (2 vets and 3 vet nurses). On the island we were supported by local community representatives, who provided accommodation and kept us well fed.

Each day we travelled to a different village, and set up our surgical clinic. The locals with arrived in good numbers with their cats and dogs, so the clinics were very busy, and the work was non-stop in very hot humid conditions.

Most animals underwent desexing surgery, and in addition flea, tick and worm treatment, and vaccinations. Medical conditions like wounds and infections were also treated.

The warmth and hospitality of the local people made our time there a pleasure. Often the whole family arrived with their pet, and were very interested and grateful for the care their pet received.

A highlight was having time to unwind with a swim in the warm, clear sea at the end of a busy day, and enjoying the sunset." ๐Ÿพ

๐Ÿฃ Easter is a fun (and delicious) time for humans - but some of the food we enjoy poses dangers to our pets!

๐Ÿซ Chocolate is a great treat for us, and very toxic for our pets. Increased amounts in the house means there is a higher chance a pet will gain access to it. Keep eggs and treats well out of pets reach.

๐Ÿ‡ Sultanas, grapes and raisins should NEVER be given to a pet in ANY amount. Hot cross buns contain these ingredients.

๐Ÿฌ Sugar free is not okay for our pets. Anything sugar free likely contains the product Xylitol - which may cause serious harm to your pet.

๐ŸŽ€ Decorations, fake grass etc should all be kept out of reach of pets. Anything ingested could cause a blockage in the gut.

โ— If you suspect your pet has eaten something they shouldn't have - contact your vet immediately โ—

Great advice on what to do if you find a stray pet ๐Ÿพ

When you find an animal you suspect is lost, we strongly recommend your first step is to have it scanned for a microchip. If a microchip is found and it is registered, the guardian can be contacted immediately! ๐Ÿฑ๐Ÿถ

Then, creating a FOUND pet listing on LostPet is easy! You don't even need to log in OR create an account to do this. ๐Ÿด๐Ÿ‡๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿฆœ

March has come and gone!
Here is what's been going on at Petmed this month ๐Ÿพ

๐Ÿ’™We had a new sign installed on the clinic, and we are very excited to have it updated!
๐Ÿ’™Our vet Cathy Po***ck spent a week in the Islands doing volunteer work, we are very proud of her and her contribution to her profession and animal welfare.
๐Ÿ’™A reminder to keep up with your flea and worm treatments - Autumn doesn't slow the fleas down!
๐Ÿ’™It is also a good time to book your senior pet in for a wellness check before we enter the colder winter months.

๐Ÿ’™๐ŸพMulticat households are common, and fights can occur. We may never have friendship between our cats, but peace and tolerance is definitely possible!

OUR TIPS:
1๏ธโƒฃ Have multiple litter trays available.
2๏ธโƒฃ Have multiple feed and water stations.
3๏ธโƒฃ Offer lots of high spots and hiding places.
4๏ธโƒฃ Offer lots of scratching posts and toys.
5๏ธโƒฃ Keep litter trays extremely hygienic.
6๏ธโƒฃ Use pheromone sprays.
7๏ธโƒฃ Spread your attention across all your cats.
8๏ธโƒฃ Use treats and rewards when they are together to create positive associations.
9๏ธโƒฃ Spey and neuter all cats in the household.
๐Ÿ”Ÿ Notice signs that your cats are unhappy together early and step in.

Learning your pets normal behaviors, attitudes and daily routine helps us to know when things are changing with them. The signs of pain, ageing and illness can be subtle.

โ–ช Behaviour
โ–ช Daily routine
โ–ช Eating and drinking pattern
โ–ช Skin and coat
โ–ช Sleeping and napping
โ–ช Toilet habit
โ–ช Breathing rate
โ–ช Exercise tolerance
โ–ช Interaction with you and your family

๐ŸพIf you notice changes, a health check would be appropriate.
