Recently, Cribby and Adriaan headed across the ditch to Australia to attend an intensive 4-day equine lameness course.

The course included a full day of lectures followed by three hands-on practical days covering:

✔️ Nerve blocks and intra-articular injections on cadavers
✔️ Ultrasound of lower limb tendons and ligaments
✔️ Advanced equine radiography techniques

Lameness cases can be some of the most challenging and rewarding cases we see, so opportunities like this are invaluable for keeping our skills sharp and staying up to date with the latest advances in equine veterinary medicine.

One of the biggest benefits of courses like these is the chance to learn alongside and connect with specialist equine veterinarians from around the world. Cribby and Adriaan have returned home with plenty of new knowledge, practical skills, and professional contacts to draw on when tackling more complex cases.

We’re always looking for ways to grow our knowledge and improve what we can offer our clients, and we’re excited to bring these new skills back to the wider East Coast horse community.

🌧️💥 Summer - what are you up to?? 💥🌧️

After days of heavy rain, flooding and soggy paddocks — followed almost immediately by 25-30°C 🔥 — summer is feeling a little all over the place 😅

Truth is, even before the weather bomb hit, we were already in a strange pattern:
🌱 Grass staying unusually green
💧 More humidity than normal
🍄 Mushrooms popping up in paddocks

When you mix rain + warmth + humidity, it can create some perfect conditions for horse health challenges 👀🐴

Things to be extra mindful of right now:
🍀 Rapid grass growth & increased laminitis risk
🍄 Mushrooms appearing — a sign of damp conditions that can increase pasture-related toxin risk
🦟 Bugs, midgies & flies loving the humidity
🕷️ Ticks thriving in warm, damp conditions

Not every horse will be affected — but if your horse seems a bit off, itchy, uncomfortable or out of sorts, it’s worth taking a closer look.
