Weโ€™re shining the spotlight today on our incredible Operations Manager, ๐‡๐จ๐ฅ๐ฅ๐ข๐ž ๐‘๐ž๐ข๐ โ€” the glue that keeps VetEast operating!

Originally from Taumarunui, Hollie now calls Gisborne home and loves being part of the East Coast community. If youโ€™ve phoned the clinic, had a billing question, or needed to chase down a wayward vet โ€” chances are youโ€™ve spoken to Hollie!

Hollie keeps our accounts running smoothly, manages the office chaos, and helps lead the charge behind the scenes โ€” all with her trademark calm, humour, and can-do attitude.

Sheโ€™s always happy to have a chat, answer your queries, and make sure your animals are well looked after.

(P.S. Hollieโ€™s right-hand dog Fitzroy is taking a day off from the camera but is very much part of the team too ๐Ÿ’š)

Thanks for everything you do, Hollie โ€” weโ€™re lucky to have you!

This week marks the end of an era for VetEast/Eastland Vets.
We're both happy and a little sad to say farewell to Fiona Irwin, who finishes up after an incredible 18 years of service.

Fiona started at Eastland Vets in 2007 and has made an enormous contribution to the veterinary profession in Gisborne. Her skill, dedication, and care, especially for the farmersโ€™ most valuable teammates, their working dogs โ€” has earned her deep respect across the region.

Alongside Fiona, her husband Allan "Crack" Irwin has also left a lasting mark on the rural community through his involvement in the Poverty Bay dog trial scene and their time at Toromiro Station. Itโ€™s no overstatement to say their impact on the rural fabric of Gisborne has been immense, possibly more than any couple in recent memory.

We now wish Fiona, Crack, and their boys every success and happiness as they begin an exciting new chapter: farming on their own farm in the King Country.

Thank you, Fiona and Crack, your legacy here will be long remembered.

Big news for the East Coast!
Huge congratulations to Wilencote Polled Herefords and Mokairau Herefords on their record-breaking $80,000 bull purchase โ€” the highest price ever paid at auction for a rising two-year-old Hereford in NZ!

Itโ€™s exciting to see this level of investment in the future of beef production right here in Gisborne and the East Coast. A real credit to both studs for their commitment to top genetics and long-term progress in the industry.

The East Coastโ€™s red cattle future is looking strong!

Wilencote and Mokairau were partners in a $80,000 auction record bull purchase this week.

Unfortunately, a lovely dog was hit by a car last night (18 June) on the corner of Aberdeen and Roebuck Road. The dog is black and white and has three legs. Sadly, it has passed away.

If you have any information or believe you may know the owner, please contact VetEast Gisborne on 06 864 8387.

Thank you.

Weโ€™re excited to share that our Managing Director, Alex Meban, was last week appointed President of the NZVA Sheep & Beef Cattle Veterinarians Branch! ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ„๐Ÿ‡ณ๐Ÿ‡ฟ

This is a huge honour โ€” and a big win for farmers in the East Coast and beyond. Alexโ€™s new role puts him at the forefront of driving innovation, animal welfare, and professional standards across the countryโ€™s sheep and beef industry.

As President, heโ€™ll be:

โœ”๏ธ Advocating for better tools, treatments & policies for farm systems
โœ”๏ธ Leading education & research initiatives to strengthen the whole sector
โœ”๏ธ Bringing a strong East Coast voice to the national table

Weโ€™re proud to see one of our own leading the charge for the future of vet care in production animals. Ka mau te wehi, Alex! ๐Ÿ‘
