CRD is a registered charity dedicated to helping the stray and abandoned kittens and cats living on the streets of Dunedin. Along with our dedicated team of volunteers we rescue, rehabilitate, desex and rehome hundreds of cats and kittens each year. We promote desexing of companion and stray cats, and aim to reduce the number of stray and unwanted cats in Dunedin. Our long-term aim is to have our

own shelter but in the meantime, all our rescues are fostered in private homes by volunteers until they are ready for their forever homes. Our main focus is kittens but we try to help with rehoming adult cats whenever space and resources allow.

We have a new supply of our NZ wool blanket crossbody bags available now at Urban Crafters .

We think that all of our followers deserve a wee Monday evening treat. Feast your eyes on these gorgeous balls of floof :-)

This young mum and her adorable kittens would all love some names. If you would like to name one in return for a $50 donation towards their care, be first to comment sponsor on their picture.

PLEASE NOTE: Sponsorship is a tax-deductible donation of $50 to CRD towards our costs. Sponsorship entails naming the selected kitten (or cat) and doesn't ensure a preferential adoption position or serve as an adoption deposit.

ADOPTION DAY

UPDATE: we will be holding our adoption day at the Green Island Civic Hall, 5 Howden St, Green Island.

Pop this in your diaries folks. We will be holding an adoption day on Sunday 17 May from 1 - 3pm.

We will also have our popular catnip kickers and tote bags for sale, and hopefully a candy floss machine on site.

Please note that this exact kitten won't be attending (it was a random pic I had on my phone) but we will have plenty of gorgeous kittens ready to find their new forever homes.

On a cold Dunedin evening, we thought we would share this heart-warming story of Butler and Milo. Both had been living wild on the streets and were very fearful of people. Butler especially wanted nothing to do with humans and their nonsense and his cage at the intake centre was covered in caution signs.

But in 2024 one of our supporters decided to give these boys the chance of a new life. She took them into her home with no expectation that they would turn into friendly cats but that is exactly what happened.

It took her a year before she was able to get within one metre of Butler, but she can pat him while he is eating and he even purrs at her. She describes him as a real character who loves to follow her around the garden, supervising her while she works.

Milo is now very friendly and cuddly and can be picked up and carried around. He warmed up to people first and helped Butler to realise that he was now in a safe space.

They are both much loved companions and all that was needed was kindness and time. We wish all the timid cats who come into our care could have such a happy ending.
