Sad to see this article in the news today, so have decided to repost something I wrote last year. Unfortunately, puppy scams seem to be very common these days! 😢 I would definitely recommend not EVER paying a deposit on a puppy you haven’t met either in person or on a video call.

I had an interesting start to my day!
A woman in England contacted me - she was looking at a dog to rehome (in England) and became suspicious that it was a scam, so did a reverse image search and believes they have used photos of one of our Daisy & Ted dogs!! 😲😡
This is a wee reminder to be very careful - there are a lot of dodgy people out there, and thank goodness this lady thought to check. Please thoroughly investigate any dog you’re looking into to make sure the seller is reputable and the dog actually exists!! If you cannot meet the dog in person before putting any money down, see if a friend can visit on your behalf, or do a video call. Ask lots of questions and make sure you are satisfied with the answers. MASSIVE red flag if the seller will not let you see a dog in person or doesn’t engage with you and spend time talking with you.
A good breeder will:
🔸 be happy for you to meet a dog or puppy you are interested in, and for you to see the environment it is being raised in
🔸 be knowledgeable and transparent about the health of the dogs, the breeds they are dealing with, and good breeding practices
🔸 have DNA tested their breeding lines to provide certainty that their puppies cannot develop any heritable diseases the breeds may be susceptible to. A health check from the vet is good but is not the same thing. Knowing you have clear genetics from the start can minimise costs and heartache down the line.
🔸 answer all your questions, and also have questions for YOU, as they will care deeply about their puppies and want to know about the homes they are going to.
🔸 support you through the adoption process and afterwards, as you navigate life with a baby dinosaur! 😄
If you’re getting a bad feeling about a breeder/seller, don’t rush into anything! Do your homework, or pass on that puppy, even if it is the cutest little thing you have ever laid eyes on. There will be another equally adorable one just around the corner, I promise! 🩷
