With the prices of feeder calves being at all all-time high, is anyone realistically going to be purchasing weaners for 700-850 at 100kg?

We were looking to get in early beef calves to have them ready for weaning around late October, however if we do this the price of them at weaning is going to be well over 650 a head assuming they have minimal milk powder (lucky enough to have a very kind family member who usually has spare whole milk), nuts and are polled.

The other option is to wait until the home farm calves beef from September but this means weaning will be anywhere from December - End of January but the prices maybe around 590-650 as will still be buying in at sales value (but in theory by then prices should have come down slightly) and will highly likely be fully CMR fed.

Some of the proposals include changing Norfolk and Chester road to 60kmph.

These have ๐๐จ๐ญ been physically mouldy or off as such but they have been very hit and miss with horses, some of the bales (all of the 10 I have used for our horses so far) have been absolutely lovely but they are very wet bales and it seems to be possibly the outside round ones (which are mixed in throughout the pile) were just a bit too wet and the smell is very strong therefore some horses are turning noses up.

These are discounted to get gone, I will uploaded a photo/video of a bale being opened when on the yard later this morning.

Effective of July 1st 2025 conventional hay will increase in price from $13.80 per bale to $14.95.

We apologise for the increase but supply, demand and whatโ€™s currently in the sheds is looking to change drastically by the end of the winter and we will be preparing to be purchasing in by Mid-August.
