Agree wholeheartedly with this philosophy!
So many people will ask us “have you got videos of it jumping a bigger track”…. No we don’t but we have got videos of it crossing creeks, jumping logs and spars, hacking out up the hill on a loose rein, riding in groups with children and dogs, and relaxed away from home because our focus is on setting up our young horses to have sound minds for once their body is ready to do what it is bred to do!

Just a little heads up if you are looking at our horses… we do NOT overproduce our young horses. So when you ask for videos, do not expect to see them trotting like Valegro and jumping like Explosion at 3/4…

I can see what a horse will be in the future from how they walk, canter and how naturally athletic they are over their first little fences. A fancy trot doesn’t impress me. Athleticism isn’t about hitting the sky and throwing their back legs almost over their head. You can engineer that. Natural athleticism is how light they are over the ground, how they eye up a fence and how they get from one side to the other whilst being respectful of a pole. Yes they need to have a good technique but they don’t need to be looping the loop. Horses that explode over a small fence every time are going to be very hard on themselves physically.

We are producing quality, well bred young horses with longevity in mind. We aren’t trying to win 3 or 4yo classes - in my opinion they prove nothing about the horse’s future prospects, all you do is shorten that horse’s career. Darc Maxim was the most unimpressive 3yo loose jumper 🤣 and was “nice” but not flash as a 4yo. Yet she went on to win the 7yo championship, Foxhunter second round and many other big classes across the country.

Our 4yos will politely WTC, know what a contact is, hack out and pop a few small fences. That’s it. We don’t expect them to do any more! All our 4yo fillies are done and back in the field after doing 8-10weeks work this year, most of that consisting of hacking. The geldings have come in now for their turn. We play the long game and take our time because the horses always come first.

So if you need to see a horse throwing big shapes round a course of fences - we are probably not for you. But if you can see a quality, raw young horse - Or you can trust us to show you one if you can’t, drop us a line!

Have always been told this horse should go eventing and this season he finally did! Dad had a blast on him, his boldness and scope makes him pretty special to sit on ❤️

Derek has been enjoying giving Leo some exposure this season, and he has placed in every class he has jumped in! Leo is quick and proving hard to beat in a jump off or on the cross country! He jumps from anywhere and really finds it all a bit too easy.
Dad’s enjoying whipping with him out on the hunt field this season, he’s reliable and an uncomplicated ride. We can’t wait to see his babies out in the future who have already landed themselves some great homes and with lots of interest in his frozen semen there’s going to be a few more around soon!

Vinny has also had a taste of plenty of different disciplines this season including eventing, show hunter, round the ring and showing. He continues to impress us as he grows stronger, he picked up a red ribbon in the ladies riding horse class at Wanaka show and won the Eastern Southland Hunter garland judged on style at the Hunter Trials. His boldness and length of stride on the cross country was so fun to sit on, will definitely be making a return to eventing with this one! 🦄

Cahlua has had a great season trying out some different disciplines including eventing, show hunter, round the ring and she even had a go at classing with a friend who hadn’t competed for years!
Her sweet nature has made her the easiest horse to take out and about, and her cute knees and beautiful rhythmic canter saw her get red ribbons in the show hunter ring! Shes uncomplicated, careful, honest and definitely has a home with us forever. Cant wait to see what her offspring grows into 🦄
