We are a 100% locally owned provincial practice supplying veterinary services to both companion animal, horse clients and farming clients in the Wairarapa. We have four fully equipped branches - Masterton, Carterton, Featherston and Martinborough. We aim to provide excellent animal health services to our clients and their animals, whether it be responding to a call for help, or working to prevent

the preventable. We also aim to be a great place to work - smiles and laughter are very important to us. We provide an after hours service to our clients that means help is available at all times.

💙 Happy Father's Day to all the pet dads out there!

Whether you're taking your best mate on adventures, sharing the couch, or being the designated treat giver, thank you for all the love and care you give your furry family members.

We know many pet dad stories start with:

🐾 "We're not getting another pet."
🐾 "The dog is not allowed on the couch."
🐾 "No more treats!"
🐾 "They're sleeping outside."

And somehow end with a camera roll full of pet photos, a permanent spot on the couch, and a furry best friend who gets just one more treat.

We'd like to let our clients know NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi will be carrying out road works on State Highway 2 outside our Carterton clinic for up to 2 weeks starting the 31st August which may cause travel delays.
If you have an appointment with us, please allow plenty of extra travel time to help ensure you arrive safely and on time.
Our Carterton clinic will remain open as usual throughout the works, and our team will be here to care for your pets as always.
Alternatively you may find it more convenient to book your appointment at our Masterton or Greytown clinics while the road works are underway. Our experienced veterinary teams at all three locations work closely together to provide the same high standard of care for your pets.
If you have any questions about your appointment, please don't hesitate to get in touch with our friendly team, we'll be happy to help.

Spring has sprung, and so have the parasites... 👀

As temperatures rise, fleas, ticks and other unwanted hitchhikers become more active. This jar contains ticks collected from a patient seen by our team, and it's a timely reminder to make sure your pet's parasite prevention is up to date.

Pets can pick up parasites from all sorts of places, including contaminated soil, infected faeces, uncooked meat, bedding and household furnishings, even more reason for some spring cleaning!

The good news? There are plenty of effective prevention options available for dogs and cats.

When Buddy began showing signs of discomfort, Buddy's owner acted quickly and brought him in for assessment. Buddy was suffering from a blocked bladder, an emergency condition mostly seen in male cats that can become life-threatening if left untreated.

Fortunately, Buddy's owner knew the signs and sought veterinary care early. After treatment, Buddy is now back home and up to his usual mischief.

Keep an eye out for these warning signs:
•Straining with little or no urine – can sometimes be mistaken for constipation
•Crying, yowling, vocalizing while trying to urinate
•Trying to urinate in weird places
•Excessive licking or chewing at the ge***al area
•Restlessness, pacing and hiding

If your cat is showing any of these signs, please give us a call, even if you are unsure it’s always safest to seek veterinary advice.
Immediate treatment is important in giving your cat the best chance at a successful the outcome.

We're seeing an increase in laminitis cases at the moment, so it's a good reminder to keep an eye out for the early warning signs.

With changing pasture conditions, laminitis can develop quickly, and the earliest signs are often subtle. Knowing what's normal for your horse and recognising small changes early can make all the difference.

Keep an eye out for a strong digital pulse, increased heat in the hoof, reluctance to move or turn, shifting weight between feet, or lying down more than usual.

By the time the classic "rocked-back" stance appears, valuable time may already have been lost. Early recognition and prompt veterinary attention are key to achieving the best possible outcome.

If you suspect laminitis, don't wait. Contact your vet promptly for advice and assessment 🐴
