It is absolutely crucial when searching for a puppy to ensure that both parents have undergone eye examinations by a specialist. This issue is becoming increasingly common in New Zealand due to irresponsible breeders.😡

Progressive Retinal Atrophy (PRA) affects the retina, the light-sensitive part of your dog’s eyes, and is a progressive disease that leads to blindness over time. In Miniature Schnauzers, symptoms typically don't surface until the dog is 3 or 4 years old.
Breeders often assume their dogs are fine, so they breed.
The puppies if affected will not show signs until adults, 3-4 years old.
This is why it's so important to have the parents see an eye specialist before breeding.
The cost?
We pay about $80 per dog here in Christchurch.
This is done annually

Watching a beloved pet go blind must be heartbreaking, and dogs with PRA face this reality. However, with the right care and adjustments, these dogs can still live fulfilling lives.

A wee vent 😔
I was walking Mya this morning and saw a bush still covered in fake Halloween spider webbing. There were 100s of dead bees trapped in the webbing! 🐝🐝🐝
It absolutely broke my heart!
I knocked on their door to alert them to the fact - no one home, so I went to their neighbours house and luckily, he knew them well. He came straight over and removed it all! 👏👏👏
Please check your Halloween netting and get it down. Birds, butterflies and bees cannot escape it! Tell your friends too! 🙏
