we have hd a very cute kitten brought into the clinic lost :( they must be owned!! from Stour Drive - anyone missing a kitten? please get in contact with the clinic and answer some question to identify them as yours. They are being well cared for at the moment by our staff :)

What he ate, however, wasn't quite so gorgeous... 😬🌽

This handsome boy came to see us after his owners noticed he wasn't feeling himself. After a thorough work-up, we identified that something wasn't right in his tummy.

The culprit? A corn cob causing an obstruction.

Our veterinary team performed surgery to remove it, and we're happy to report that by the very next day, he was already looking much brighter and getting back to his normal self! 🥰

A reminder that corn cobs can be very tempting for dogs and need to be disposed of very carefully and can cause serious blockages that require emergency surgery.

We wish this lovely boy a smooth and speedy recovery! ❤️🐶

🌟 Staff Spotlight – Meet Liz 🌟

Liz joined the team after graduating from Massey University in 2025, bringing with her a background in the education sector and a passion for helping both pets and their people. 🐾

She loves the variety that comes with small animal practice and enjoys working closely with clients to make sure their pets receive the very best care possible. Liz has particular interests in internal medicine, dentistry, and surgery.

Outside of the clinic, Liz stays busy on a small lifestyle block with her partner and their lively crew of animals – including cattle, bantams, a smart heading dog, and an even smarter cat! 🐶🐱🐓

When she’s not caring for patients, you’ll likely find her tramping, swimming, trying out new recipes, or on the hunt for the perfect cup of coffee ☕💚

🌟 Staff Spotlight – Meet Brittany 🌟

Brittany has been part of the Shirley Vet Clinic family since October 2020, bringing years of experience, compassion, and dedication to her role as a Veterinary Nurse. 🐾

After graduating with a National Certificate in Veterinary Nursing in 2015, Brittany began her nursing career in Ashburton and has been caring for pets ever since. Her interests within nursing include nutrition and weight loss programmes, diagnostics, and clinical nursing.

One of Brittany’s favourite parts of the job is spending quality time with her patients and making sure they receive plenty of extra TLC and cuddles while they’re in our care 💚

Outside of the clinic, Brittany is passionate about figure skating and is a member of the synchronised ice skating team, Kia Kaha. ⛸️ She has been figure skating since she was 5 years old and has spent the last 6 years competing in synchronised ice skating — a sport that combines teamwork, skill, and creativity.

We’re so lucky to have Brittany as part of the team! ✨
