I share a lot of dog related content (as you would expect 😂) so I figured I would change it up a bit and share a fun fact about me. I studied a Bachelor of Arts with a Major in Media and Communication at (University of Canterbury). While I didn’t go into the communications field, everything I learnt while studying comes in handy when it comes to growing my business 😊

Bit of a different post today but this boy deserves a big well done so long caption incoming. For those of you who don’t know (which is basically all of you 😂) Otis can be quite reactive towards other dogs due to some trauma from when he was younger so I have been working with him when I get the opportunity on our walks to ease some of that stress and anxiety about being near another dog and today he did super well. There was a dog running around off leash at the park we were at with no interest in Otis whatsoever. Otis remained relatively calm and showed no major signs of being unimpressed about being close to this dog (we had to go past them either way to leave) even though he showed me he initially was a little unimpressed about the dog so I took the opportunity to do some desensitisation work. This boy kept his focus on me unprompted most of the time, only breaking it to look at the dog for a few seconds before choosing to look back at me even though there’s a dog behind him. When I first started walking Otis I introduced both look and watch as commands for when we have to be near a dog we can’t avoid which I typically try to do for his enjoyment as not every dog is as unbothered and disinterested as today’s dog was, these commands have been incredibly beneficial as today showed with him doing it without the command. His owners also deserve a huge well done, it can be hard to get past the trauma of seeing your fur baby get hurt and they have worked very hard to keep it at bay when out and about with him so that he doesn’t pick up on it as remaining as calm and focused when working with reactive dogs is the key to progress no matter how big or small 😊❤️

🐾 We’re LIVE with a NEW WEB PLATFORM! 🎉

After months of hard work, late nights, testing, sweat (and yes, many tears), we came to a tough realisation:
The original app that many of you downloaded simply wasn’t going to work the way we dreamed, not without bugs and frustrating errors.

We worked very hard to find a solution ✨and now, we’re thrilled to introduce our brand-new, fully functional web app ✨designed to bring dogs and their humans together across New Zealand and beyond.

🎁 Join now and you could win a doggie hamper! The first 50 people to sign up go in the draw!

🚨 Important: The mobile app no longer work, please register on our new platform at socialdog.co.nz 💻

At SocialDog, our mission is powerful:
To connect dogs and dog owners through safe, fun, and meaningful social opportunities, building lifelong friendships while helping reduce reactivity and aggression in our communities.

Let’s help our best friends make more best friends 🐕💬

This gentle giant is another newbie. Also recently joined the crew for a couple of walks a week, while he may be a big boy he listens nicely and is learning very quickly about not pulling on the leash. As you may expect there is a little bit of slobber with this smooshy man 😊

As I’m sure you are all aware, it’s dog rego time again. The fees associated with this are a big money drain for rescues like Christchurch Bull Breed Rescue, and while they will never complain about the total cost and they will pay it no matter what as it helps the dogs but it takes away from things like emergency vet fees, if you can spare a couple of dollars check out the full description in the original post for details. The rescue and dogs thank you very much 😊🐶🐾

$2042 ! 💰
That’s how much we spent on dog registrations in the past week! It’s a yearly cost that we obviously expect & try plan for but unexpected vet bills have snuck up to kick us in the butt & we’re really scraping the bottom of the barrel.
If you can spare a coffee or even just $2 this week - we would very much appreciate it. All the little amounts add up & really do make a huge difference.
